I saw one on Tuesday. About 7pm, as Simon and I were coming back from the vets.Murphy's No More Pies Club #209

My beloved works (indirectly via Amey) for the HA in MAC9 which is West Midlands from Welsh Border to about Stoke. He is currently on about 3 hours sleep a night as it is part of his duties to manage the gritting programme. It is quite amazing how much planning it takes - they have to grit in between bad weather spells and especially rain/sleet etc. They also act upon feedback from the workers on conditions, and contact with HA traffic officers and the police. Tonight, there are definitely 2 grits across the network. There is possibly going to be a third in some areas due to some freezing sleet due around 4am. This is relating to motorways and major trunk roads - for everything else, it is local authority led. I find myself quite boring sometimes when it comes to the inner workings of road management! :-)

I saw some gritters Saturday evening about 5.30 just past Leicester Forest East services on the M1. We've had very little in the way of snow/ice here but the pavements were icy this evening - they're the only ones I've seen so far.*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200

The salt shakers have been doing the rounds here in South London for a few days now. There's no snow, but night time temperatures have dropped below 00

Powys CC sprayed my car with salt this evening for me. You usually see them whenever it's predicted to drop below freezing so they've been about on and off for a few weeks now.0

Saw them going round Hanger Lane, West London on Friday.0

Their was the report of a Lesser Spotted Gritter on the A3 last week but little visual evidence to substantiate it >You scullion! You rampallian! You fustilarian! I’ll tickle your catastrophe (Henry IV part 2)0

Yes. I've seen council gritter trucks and I've also seen gritters being pulled by farmers in their tractors (are these special or just seed sowing kit adapted to spread grit as well I wonder) in rural areas.
Where I haven't seen gritters I've seen my car turn a grey-white colour from the salt in the spray from other cars."One thing that is different, and has changed here, is the self-absorption, not just greed. There has been a lot of rain for the last couple of weeks and dropping temps which is why gritters have been out, that is a worse combination than snow.0 -
