Sky TV All Channels free

I haven't a clue how this could happen, but my son bought a second hand sky box over a year ago. He bought a £20 card to watch free to view sky.
He has just discovered that he recieves the full package - movies, sport, sky1 etc etc. Obviously he won't complain about this but how can it possibly happen?

I am about to get a second hand box and card so I hope I am lucky too!
I think I read a similar story on MSE recently so perhaps it's not so rare?

Has anyone else been lucky?

I think I might have the answer to this one!

I too have a £20 free to view card. Sky wrote to me a few days ago to say that all channels, (except the pay per view ones) would be available and FREE for the whole of February. I visited my in-laws today and they also have free Sky.
So sorry, but I think the free channels will disappear on 1st March.
I guess it's their way to get you hooked, and then maybe you'll sign up to one of their packages at the end of the free trial.

I think I saw on trailer on Sky saying that they are doing it in batches. Maybe you'll get lucky in March!!

sky uses a system which is pretty invincible to chipping.

Its system software(or epg for the challenged) since digital has been constantly upgraded , preventing such chipping.

With card to box pairing and keyrolls frequently for whats available uniquely written to each card its nigh on impossibel , other than box and card cloning which is VERY expensive and once one subbed box is found all are thus suspended with them being cloned.

Its system for most part is encrypted on the card , box , and uniquely in every channel paired to each other and is sent to them via the phone line that has to be connected.....unless you buy your equipment paying upfront for no line service.

I am sure theres REAL sky folk on here that will point out exactly how its impervious to hacks , cracks , chips or whips.

i have a sky box with our own but expired sky card in, my ex used to pay for it but stopped. it still works but I get less channels than freeview hmm lol.
