Hi All
I'm going to start receiving a very small pension of £40 each month from January.
Pretty well set up for all the basics - home, heat, food etc and I already donate to my favourite charities. I know that if I just leave it in the pot - it will disappear, never to be seen again, so I would like some ideas of how to use it sensibly or not please!
What is available out there for £40 per month that would be of use to an active 60 year old......? (Not a gym membership please - already doing it).

If it were me, and it wasn't an important part of the budget, I think I'd go to night school and learn something new and crafty. Something like home furnishings, or Indian Head Massage or something.
Or a new language.

You could join the National Trust or English Heritige or the equivelant to your part of the country then have a day/weekend away to one of their sites once a month.
Because it is an interest of mine, I would use the money to further my Family History research.0 -
Two good suggestions there thanks. I have thought about a one day cookery course but perhaps I could do an Indian Head massage day course or something. Don't really want to get hooked up on a long term course of anything at the moment. National Trust? Hmm, have to be honest, not really my thing at the moment, but a thought for the future nonetheless.....0

You could pay it into a separate account, let it build up a little and then use if for luxuries.0

Thanks Mojisola - but I know what I'm like! Something else will come along and it will get spent as soon as I "need" it.....0

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
That's a good idea seven-day-weekend - I'll maybe put that on the list. A couple of friends called in, and one suggested I upgrade my phone from the dinosaur age to one that surfs the net (the £40 would cover the rental) - but I'm sure I don't make enough calls or texts to make the rental worthwhile. It seems an expensive way to access the web? The other suggests I see if I can get some sort of season ticket to the cinema or theatre........that might be a thought, if such a thing exists? £40 is an awkward figure - but I'm going to try and spend it well!0

Get a lot of ideas and make a "bucket list" and work your way through it. Some of the ideas will involve saving few months' money so, if you don't think you can do it, get a friend or relative to hold the money for you.0

I'd do a course in something I like. We oldies no longer have a discount.
Otherwise it would be my theatre fund.Member #14 of SKI-ers club

Teeat yourself to a day out once a month, doing whatever you fancy.0
