Blackberry -Avoiding Virgin data roaming charges?
I am going to Italy on Monday for a week and want to take my phone with me to use for calls and texts only (I could take an old PAYG phone but would prefer to use my own number if poss). The phone is a Blackberry Curve 9300, on a Virgin contract. Can anyone confirm that if I switch off data services while roaming, that I will not get any unexpected charges?? I have heard stories about data roaming switching itself back on when the phone reboots after being turned off, and even when the camera is used on the phone. TIA for any advice.

yes you can turn the data roaming off ,unlike a adniod or iphone when you turn it off its off ,
no BBM ,MMS ,internet or any apps that use the net ,and no emails
i think its in the network setting where you turn it off

BlackBerry does not use a lot of data whilst abroad if you don't have add ons and third party apps running. But anyway, you can switch Data roaming off by going to Options > Mobile Network > Data whilst Roaming > Off.
Won't your Virgin SIM work in the old PAYG mobile. Is it not unlocked?0 -

My android phone allows, all data off, roaming data off, background updates off. The data is well controllable by the user, I have not used 60 mb since the beginning of the month :cool:0 -
Quick update - I rang Virgin and they have disabled all data usage while we are away - apparently all our phones (2 adults 2 teenagers) are now only capable of texts and phone calls until we reactivate data services when we get back - hopefully that means we can still communicate with each other and family/friends while we are away but can't run up any other unexpected charges - fingers crossed! Thanks for the advice.0
