Changing trains with 0 minutes difference?

I'm booking a train from bristol to hemel, and it changes twice: The first change is London Paddington where I change to go to Euston.

The problem is the site says the train arrives, and the other train departs at exactly the same time, ie. no gap. How can I possibly change in 0 minutes? I am not familiar with the station or where to go.

My main concern is the tickets I have will be for specific trains, so if I don't change in 0 minutes I could be in trouble.

Any advice?

Ah is it talking about the tube transfer? It doesn't know tube times so is just saying get a tube train up to Euston. It shouldn't be offering it to you as a through journey if there is actually 0 mins difference - look how much difference there actually is between the arrival at Paddington and departure from Euston.
  • I'm travelling by train over xmas and have the same worries.

Have you looked on the national rail website to see how frequently the trains are departing. Perhaps you could arrange your tickets for the next departing train to give you some time to get to the right platform. The journey planner also told me what platforms I'd be departing from so I looked at the station maps to see how far the platforms where from each other.

Here's the link for London Paddington station map -

    http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/stations/sjp/PAD/plan.html?rtnloc=PAD

    and London Euston -

    http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/stations/sjp/EUS/plan.html?rtnloc=EUS

Otherwise why not call national rail customer service 08457 48 49 50 and see what they advise.

    Hope that helps :)

You must get your booked train into Paddington.

But, from there, you can use any reasonable LU route, on any LU train to get to Euston / Euston Square, and any appropriate connecting train from Euston to HML.

The transfer time from Paddington - Euston does not actually indicate any specific train.

If you are travelling on a day when there are no engineering works, exit from near the middle of the First Great Western train at Paddington and then go up the stairs to the footbridge, take the Eastbound Hammersmith & City / Circle to Euston Square.

If it's raining you may want to change trains somewhere and go to Euston LU station instead of Euston Square LU station instead perhaps.

That's no problem for the journey there, but the journey back, being in the right place will depend on getting from Hemel to Euston to Paddington - in the past when I have booked online unless I chose an open return or whatever, my tickets have had the times written on them. So I'd buy online, and end up with a ticket saying those times in my screenshot, and be SOL if I don't get to the right place at the right time...
  • the tube doesnt indicate times because theyre so frequent and you can use any of them to transfer between paddington and euston doesnt have to be a set time
    What goes around-comes around
  • What about euston to hemel though? :/

Within reason you can use any train. There are no seat reservations on that part of the journey.

On the one highlighted you have 51 minutes to get from Paddington to Euston - a journey that takes 25 minutes, less to Euston Square.

And if you miss connections through late running trains you are allowed to use the next train anyway

Ahh!!! Wicked! I just double checked and you're right it estimates like 18 minutes! :)

I'll go for that, what could go wrong eh :)

    Cheers for your help! :T

Travel to Euston Square and walk to Euston, it's far easier from Paddington than actually travelling to Euston on the tube.
