My Electricity bill seems ridiculous? Help!
Hi Guys
So I have an electricity bill of £120 every month, which has gone up from £80 in May due to increases in rates.
I live in a 1 bed flat with my girlfriend and EON is my provider.
We are both out working all day and only in at night and weekends.
Does this amount seem right? It seems extortionate to me, and I have an issue where I have no idea where my meter is, it is not in my flat I am sure as I have looked everywhere...
Nothing in the tenancy agreement either, yet it says they read the meter in October.
Any suggestions?

Am I right in thinking you are all electric. You might be best posting usage kWh rather than how much you pay as this doesn't reflect your usage as you might still be in debt0

Hi
Yes, all electric, and the bill says '
Electricity
Up to 13 Sep 11
Day 426 kilowatt-hours (kWh) used f see meter readings
Day first units used 131kWh at 26.69p each
Day next units used 295kWh at 14.75p each
34.96
43.51
Night 803 kWh used f at 5.12p each 41.11
= 119.58
After price change on 13 Sep 11
Day 346 kilowatt-hours (kWh) used f see meter readings
Day first units used 108kWh at 29.36p each
Day next units used 238kWh at 16.1p each

38.32
Night 652 kWh used f at 5.89p each 38.40

Your usage = 228.00 -

The meter is proof positive of consumption so it is pointless speculating. You are the householder and it is to your benefit to find your property's meter.
I do not know whether £120 is right but it would not be "extortionate" if you are heating the flat to good level. It is the heating system, not being out at work all day, which most influences the consumption.0 -

Well put it this way. The heating is off all day until I return home.
I put it on until I sleep. If it is cold and then off overnight. It is on a timer.
Those readings btw are an estimate. It says see meter readings where it then says ESTIMATED on the bill.0 -
Find out from you landlord where the meter is and how you get a reading off it. Do this as a matter of urgency. The estimated readings could be considerably different to your actual usage, either in your favour, or against you financially.

Is this the amount you are paying monthly by DD or is it a monthly usage bill
I watch mine pretty well and my gas and electric are about £1200 for the year.
3 Bed semi with warm air gas central heating and we are in all day.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Those usage figures are within a normal range, from my experience. I would find your meter as a priority, look for a better tariff, also think about giving monthly reads so you get a good understanding of your usage.Ex BG complaints veteran of 6 years!0

Go to your consumer unit, and follow the incoming cable to that back to the meter-it's not rocket science. If it's in a common (and locked) area of a block of flats, talk to the landlord or agent ASAP to get access, to which you have a legal right-as does the supplier.
Did you not take opening reads when you began the tenancy back in May? If not, you're going to have difficulties agreeing that figure. No free lunch, and no free laptop

post 3 sounds as though you are on an E7 meter set up, so you should have storage heaters, which normally charge up from about 12 -7am, on cheap rate, and release heat during the day.
The above quote sounds as though you are using direct heating.
What type of heating are you using?
As already suggested, get a proper meter reading and compare to estimated figures.0
