We contacted PS10(A) with this query and they have said that they are not aware of any plan to remove the operational allowance."Official Organisation Representative

Once you've done a bit of time, matured a bit and have a few tours in different theatres under your belt then you will realise that it is a 'team' effort. Your daily pay is based on your Corps, trade etc but Op allowance is exactly that.......an allowance for everybody who serves on that or other qualifying Operations
Now enjoy it whilst you can as it will disappear/be streamlined once Op HERRICK has ended.0 -

Thats one question answered.
Another is - Will it be reduced or tiered dependent on role?0 -

Agreed with this. Asymmetric warfare doesn't provide a 'front line' and indirect fire or direct fire doesn't discriminate between REMFs or not!0 -
Thanks for your question, ICATQ. There is currently no plan to reduce the allowance or alter the way in which it is calculated."Official Organisation Representative

Absolutely and as I am currently on a course with four MERT doctors, I would challenge you to call any of them REMFs despite them not setting foot outside Bastion when doing their unbelievably advanced medicine saving the lives of many soldiers and civilians. Paddy H clearly thinks that the infantry can support itself. Admirable but wholly wrong.0 -
Does anyone actually know how much you get for Op bonus and when it is paid ie next wage after tour of 3 months after tour?£100 shoe voucher, £100 Lyle & Scott voucher, £100 Primark Gift card, 2 tickets to see Marc Almond. Tickets to see Haunting Julia. Pair of cheeky shoes.0

Does anyone actually know how much you get for Op bonus and when it is paid ie next wage after tour of 3 months after tour?from 6 May 2010, Service personnel will receive £5,280.88 tax-free for a 182-day (six-month) tour in an appropriate operational area. Payment is in the form of a single lump sum paid on completion of operational service
(£29.02 a day so work it out for yourself on how long you're there)
As for when it's paid, I don't have any of the JSPs etc here with me so I can' answer, I'm not sure if its an element entry or what. I'd hazard a guess that it would be the next one after the one after you return (ie 2nd wage) to allow for move and tracking you back and what not; most allowances are entered retrospective so you don't up getting extra0 -

Last two Dets I have been given the following options by the clerk on Det (RAF).
Op Bonus to be paid at the end of the month that the Det finishes in (means a bit of guessing on flight dates out and then adjustment)
Op Bonus to be paid in the month following completion (should be accurate as move and track has been done - as per advice above)
Apply once back in the UK through normal HR. Could be one or two months later depending on what day of the month you apply.0
