I'm not sure what you are asking; but if you are regretting not applying then can you not apply now anyway and post it through the letter box, date it yesterday and hope that it gets through?
You don't know if the person is coming back [I take it you are covering maternity leave?]; and nobody on here will be able to tell you that. You could always reapply for that job if they don't come back, if you did apply for and get the other job.If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -
sorry i have applied for the permanent post but still feel torn as i love the other job, probably not making much sense as i've been awake all night thinking about itgrocery challenge jan 17 £ / 350.000

It sounds like you're scared of change. The new job does sound a lot better from a family and practical point of view. In times like these, a permanent job can only be a good thing if you need the money.
If you don't need the money then consider withdrawing your application and staying where you are.
In your shoes, I'd go for the new job (for financial security) and look into training to work with children, it sounds as if you really enjoy that part of the job.[FONT="][FONT="] Fighting the biggest battle of my life.

You are worrying far too much. You may not even be offered an interview!
1. Carry on enjoying your current job.
2. Keep hinting that you want to be taken on permanently because you love it so much. It's the squeaky wheel that gets the oil.
3. Sit tight and wait to see what happens (if anything) with the application.
4. Make a decision once there is a decision to actually make.
5. Stop fretting.
6. Have a Merry Christmas."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -

There is no point doing this.
You may as well go the the interview (if there ever is one!) and see what it's about. Make the decision whether to accept once (and only once) you've been offered an actual job."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."

All you have changed in your life is that you have put an application in for a job. So there is no decision to make.
Even if you did get it, you can tell the old job that you really would like to go back, and could save them on recruitment costs as it would take one phone call.
So, just do your best at interview and stop fretting. Nothing to worry about just yet.If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -
i do have an interview, i guess i also feel guilty for going for another job after only being there half of my time there. If i were to withdraw the application though it would make me look even worse to both employers! Thanks for your feedback, yes merry christmas mrcow xgrocery challenge jan 17 £ / 350.000

Even though the job might start as a lunch time job there is some interacting with children. A friend does this role and she knows all the children that she serves.
If the staff there see you love children you might get some work as a teaching assistant later on. They might even sponsor you to get some teaching assistant qualifications.0 -

Absolutely agree with you! Before you are there, the situation is like that, but who knows that one day it will change bit by bit because of what you do.
However, it's totally up to yourself, finally you will find a way out.

Why are you worrying so much? Just go to the interview and do your best. The job your doing at the moment is for a set time the other job is perm, closer to family and has a lot more job security.
You basically say you love the job but nothing in this world stays the same, sometimes moving on is a good thing and you would grow to feel the same about the new place if you get the job.
Think of it this way, in a couple of months time you will be leaving anyway and would you rather be out of work or in work taking the chance you have.
Maybe the lady whoms job your looking after doesn't come back, you could always keep in touch and if the job is available you could apply for the perm post at that point.
whatever you decide to do is upto you, just do a pro's and con's and remember sometimes we have to do things that put our families first
It's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun0
