I have a camera which for a few weeks now doesn't work properly (it won't switch on properly, is entirely unusable). I just found the box it came in which has one year gaurantee leaflet but it says the shop is supposed to date and stamp it before it's valid but they haven't. I bought it in Argos on the 18th Dec 2010 & I still have the receipt. Does anyone know if there is anything I can do?
Thanks

You should contact Argos asap.
Technically your contract is with them. Although sometimes it can be quicker and less hassle to go via the manufacturer. Try contacting argos first and see what they sayYou keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
take it back to argos with your receipt and ask them to get it fixed for you, but hurry.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0

Just because a product is out of warranty doesnt mean you dont have any rights! SoGA gives you up to 6 years from the date of purchase in england (5 years from date of discovery in scotland) to seek recourse.
This is of course for inherent faults and not for accidental damage, misuse or overuse.
The problem is, once 6 months from purchase has passed, the burden of proof passes from the retailer to the consumer. Meaning you may (not always...depends if retailer is willing to deal with it or not) need proof that the fault is inherent. Although this is usually done via independent report, this is not necessarily the only way and if the report was found in your favour, you could then claim the cost back from the retailer.
When buying, its always handy to search the make and model number on independent review sites. It will likely give you an idea about the product itself but may also let you know what the company are like should something go wrongYou keep using that word. Where does the overuse bit come from? I have never heard of that nor been told when buying a product how much I can use it.0 -

overuse = wear and tear. sorry, shouldve perhaps clarified on that, was just trying to save time typing a few extra letters :PYou keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -

I'd just like to add for ops sake, that doesn't mean goods should last 6 (or 5) years. If a product has a life expectancy of 2 years you're unlikely to have a valid case if it broke in year 4.unholyangel wrote: »overuse = wear and tear. sorry, shouldve perhaps clarified on that, was just trying to save time typing a few extra letters :P
