Apple Genius Bar

Asking this on behalf of a friend. He has bought an iPhone 4s from the local classifieds for around £400. If in the near future the previous owner does some sort of insurance scam and the phone gets blocked. Will the genius bar people replace this for him for a new one as obviously its still in warranty.

Do apple have any sort of mechanism to check wether phones have been reported lost/stolen before replacing them, or are they not bothered and just check the serial to see when the warranty expires.

I believe they have access to checkMEND so they will generally check and they wont knowingly launder handsets that are lost, stolen or relate to fraud.

From issues a previous poster had on here, they will replace a stolen handset no questions asked. Might have had a policy change now, though.

As Rusty says, they are suppoed to check and NOT replace blacklisted handsets, but some of their staff don't seem to do the check.

Just bear in mind, if they do check and it comes up blacklisted I 'think' they won't give it back as it's stolen property. I'm sure some of the more legal mined members on here will confirm or correct that??

what do u mean "they wont give the phone back"?
My mate had a receipt made out when he bought is signed by the other guy.

Is it best for him to try getting the phone swapped whilst its still working?
What are the common faults on theses 4s where apple will just do a straight swap

Anyone can write a receipt, Apple are only interested in the details they'll have down from when the phone was first sold.
