Morning after Coal clinkers

i refer the half burnt coal and ovoids that still remain after you have raked the fire with a poker to drop free ash into the bottom. Do you keep these in the fire or light on top of them?

I have been doing on top but been burning alot of coal and i think the clinkers on top were too much for it and not enough air getting through underneath. Leaving the air vent open alot longer now, bought a range of different solid fuels, ecobrite, anthracite, anthracite esse, anthracite aga and stoveglow. So far ive only used ecobrite and anthracite, not keen on either though tbh, esse be next up
  • You should be able to leave them in & gradually burn them down but you must riddle out the ash to allow air circulation.

If you have that many clinkers left then you aren't burning hot enough. Try an hour or so before bed opening the air vent back up and get the best out of the fuel you have in the stove instead if adding more fuel

You might need to riddle it a wee bit as well to let the air through
  • It's not lack of air that leaves them it's the coal he's burning.

  • Does it say in your warranty you can't burn housecoal? What stove did you get again?

    san remmo 6kw
  • There shouldn't be an issue with housecoal; mine says it is ok and prohibits coked coal. Personally I am now burning coked coal now - there are only small amounts of coke in it, and I expect the coke is just there to make the fuel burn quicker. Housecoal for me burns the longest and, ironically, with respect to "leftovers", the cleanest.
