Dial Up Providers

I'm trying to find a dial up internet provider for my parents. They only occassionally use the internet and don't want to sign up to any contrats - in fact broadband by them is quite poor speeds anyway.

Can anyone suggest a dial up provider?

Thanks

Bear in mind a dial-up connection will tie up the phone line while it's in use.
Even "poor speed" broadband will be better than any dial-up connection.

    However if you must...

  • Do they have modem that they can use?

A dial up modem isn't the same as a modem used for broadband.

There are now quite a few cheap ISP's for broadband that it is worth it on any usage levels or time basis.

The cheapest dial-up ISP is 1p per minute....adding it up let's say very minimal usage at 2 hours per week. £1.20 times 52 weeks then divide by 12 equals £5.20 per month. The cheapest deals on broadband are under £5 a month for low usage but they are 24/7 access.

Even if broadband is super slow at 256kbps it's still much faster than dialup at 56kbps.
    :footie:
:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

If you want to get an idea how slow even fast dial-up connections are, try sloppy. Even for simple things like email, it's painful on anything using graphics. Then you have to teach them how to connect and disconnect, plus as already said, it ties up the phone line when in use.

If they don't want a 12m contract, there are 30 day rolling BB contracts available with many suppliers.
Or get them a PAYG dongle.
Either of those is vastly better than dial up.
