Thinking of changing from AOL to bt or sky

Hi My parents currently have AOL and have nothing but problems with them. The other evening my dad was on the phone to them for 4 hours because yet again his internet was down. They did eventually get him up and running only to go on the next morning and it wasnt working. When it does woth it is slower than the old dial up. For the last i dont know how many years ive been telling him to change. I think he has finally had enough of them. All we need to get is a mac code isnt it? The only thing is, alot of people send my dad emails through his AOL email address. Is there any way of being able to access this if he moves providers? Can he link it some how to his new address?
Which is BT or sky?

Any helpful advise would be veru much appreciated.
Things will get better day by day.

  • I had problems with AOL since joining them 3 years ago, finally moved to BT last month, I can still use my AOL email address so should be no problem for your dad.

It would take an age to post all the problems I had with AOl and you would probably lose the will to live(i nearly did dealing with them)suffice to say their customer service is a joke and your well rid, yes BT is more expensive but at least relatively easy to speak to a human being and arrange a service call.

He can set up a Gmail account in 5 minutes, that is then ISP-independent.
AOL to BT...frying pan to fire...
Do an exchange search on https://www.samknows for his LLU options, which may or may not include Sky-you do not want to be on Sky Connect, which is just a resold BT wholesale service.

  • I'm with AOL and have been for about ten years. Last June, I got a call from a woman asking me if I would stay with AOL for another 18 months and if I did, costs would stay the same and I would also get three months free. Those three months I got charged each month starting with a fiver, then eight pounds and then twelve pounds. I phoned up and asked for a migration code to go to BT and they told me that I was bound in a contract for 18 months and it would cost me £250 to be released from it. I told them that they were in breech of contract as they had charged me for each of the three months that should have been free. Their answer was 'tough luck- you want out, cough up the money'. The next month I was charged ten pounds more than it was before. As far as I'm concerned, AOL are thieving lying !!!!!!!s so avoid them at all costs!! I pay by credit card each month and when my Barclaycard expired, I was sent a new card with a different number and AOL somehow got hold of the new number and carried on charging me as normal. How did they do that? Big bad company- stay away!

But she didn't say tthat he next 3 months would be free-they may fall at the end of your 18m contract?
Don't ever allow a telcom to place a recurring debit authority on your credit card, only they can cancel it. Use a DD, where you have control and a failsafe refund process.
