How Do I Cook Bolognaise Sauce in the Slow Cooker?

Don't have a slow cooker but I imagine it would "boil" the meat. Start off the sauce in a pan by browning off your ingredients then add to the slow cooker with passata etc.0

I make theses dishes frequently in the slow cooker.
I use at least 6 cloves of garlic, and 2 large onions (for 500g mince), plus a couple of grated carrots, which gives heaps of flavour. I also use tomato ketchup, rather than tomato puree as it seems to do something.
For bolognaise sauce I always put in at least a glass of red wine, plenty of basil, and mushrooms. For chilli, I add cumin, garam masala, and loads of kidney beans.0 -
A tablespoon full of vinegar also helps.0

I have - frozen mince, frozen onions, tinned chopped tomatoes, tinned baked beans and jars of bolognese sauce. Can I bung it all in the slow cooker and leave it to it? Do I need to add water like you would with a stew or casserole? ThanksMummy to Oliver - 28/10/09

The meat should be defosted first. Also, I wouldn't put baked beans in for a bolognese and if you've got tinned tomatoes, there's no need to use a jar of bolognese sauce too.
Using just the meat, onions and tomatoes, add some oregano and basil, a dash of lea and perrins if you have it, bit of salt, pepper and maybe a teaspoon of sugar and a squirt of tomato puree. You can add a little bit of stock if you like, but you don't need as much liquid in a slow cooker as you would cooking on the hob.0 -
I'd also like to make this. Do you need to brown the mince first? I never usually brown anything before putting it in the slow cooker but as I've never put mince in it before thought I ought to ask.2013: Interflora Vouchers, Christmas Decorations, NNUK goody bag, thermos flask, macwet gloves0

You can brown the mince first. A lot of people do, but I don't bother usually.0

I would say it depends on the quality of the mince. If it is very lean then there may be no need to brown it first but for cheaper mince I brown it to get the fat off it first as otherwise you end up with a layer of oil on top of the bolognese.Climbing back on the OS wagon after a short vacation to Recklessness

I'd soften the onions and brown the mince first, but others just bung it all in
If you want to be properly Money Saving and Old Style, you can make the sauce from scratch - it'll taste loads better too :T
