Phone blacklisting nightmare - legally mine from new!

  • I have had an Orange san francisco since the beginning of Nov I purchased it from Orange on line, it worked perfectly when unlocked with my own sim card
Over the last few weeks it has worked intermittently, until last week when it stopped working, did a factory reset and still no joy.

After many calls to Orange and them saying another network has blacklisted it, being told it would be unblocked by Monday, and getting no joy I rang their returns department today and told them I wanted a full refund.
The chap there was very helpful and explained that a number of these phones have been blacklisted, they are unable to lift the blacklisting so they will send me a returns envelope and I've got to return the phone to Orange and get a refund. I rang 08000790103

    Hope this helps:j

Did they send your details to the senior Orange UK blacklisting team? Orange CS couldn't lift the blacklist themselves but have assured me that this team will be able to do it (and tell me who has blacklisted).

Expecting a call today so will update here when I know more...

They said they can't lift blacklisting so phone had to be returned, I said why did the other person say it could be lifted he said they don't have the correct info

Just had call from senior Orange CS, apparently 3rd party company 'UK blacklisting' (?) suffered a major systems fault and this is the reason that's affected a lot of people.

Have been assured that blacklisting will be lifted by 6pm (told to turn phone off and on)...

For info I've been given 1 months line rental compensation.

    Awaiting 6pm...
  • My blacklist wasn't removed yesterday at 6pm like others but have just called Orange again today and they were able to remove it without a problem. Was also told that a company called Blacklisting UK would've done the blacklisting but couldn't obtain any further details like contacts etc.

Text from T-Mobile customer service - how was my recent experience?

This was followed up by a phone call from Techical Support to say the phone has been 'unblacklisted'. They didn't want to tell me who had blacklisted it in the first place (initially stating 'legal reasons', then after consulting supervisor amending this to 'company policy') - finally revealing it was - surprise surprise (not) - Orange.

So, sound like it IS Orange punishing punters for purchasing subsidised PAYG phones and immediately flashing/unlocking them, I did this with my SF (1), but to Vodafone (with touchwood no probs thus far), would it be fair to assume is only an issue with T-Mob due to the link up with Orange and their system sharing.
  • I dunno, I have 2x OSFs where I chucked the unused PAYG sim & used my T-Mobile sim from day-one.
After reading this thread the first one (with a broken screen) was tested by sticking my sim in the phone, calling it and listening for a ring.
The replacement obviously would have been noticed by now had it been blacklisted.

Not saying it's nowt to do with the T-Mo/Orange connection, but just to say of my two, neither are affected so it's certainly not some sinister blanket-policy.
