Best washable/ disposable breast pads while breastfeeding

  • I found Tommee Tippee and Lansinoh disposables to be the best.
TBH, if you're leaking that much, washables might not be much good. I currently use Imse Vimse wool / silk ones but they don't absorb all that much. Luckily I don't leak very often!
I've heard good things abou tthe lillipadz though - might be worth a go?

I tried little lamb bamboo pads, but I didn't like them. I also got thrush a week after using them so I'm not sure if they contributed to that but it sure put me off, I did find I felt damp all the time, so it might not have helped.

My favourite pads (and I tried them all) were tommee tippee. I stocked up on them when they were £2 a box. In the beginning I was using 4 - 6 pairs a day so it was costly but it settled down after a month or so and I was able to wear 2 pairs over 24 hours.

The worst were sainsbury's own - just don't bother. They were uncomfortable and made me itch.

Top tip if you suddenly feel the let down happen at an inopportune moment, just press down firmly on the nipple area and it magically stops the flow :) but if you are leaky you will still need pads and personally I found the washable variety useless. most supermarket ones are fine, I found the sticky bits on the back of tommee tippee ones to be pointless and could have done without the individual bags each pair come in - overpackaging really.

when I had DC1 I read somewhere that you could cut up disposable nappies to use as breastpads. this brainwave must have predated disposable nappies with silica gel, as I discovered when I tried this brilliant idea out and ended up with bits of silica gel everywhere!
  • i never tried washable ones but i used boots own brand over night and if i was staying in. if i was going out i used the tesco own brand ones as they were thinner and less visible.
