Can anyone explain bathrooms to me please?!

Hi all, I think I am being a duh-brain... You know bathrooms, why do people have a separate shower cubicle? Does it make it warmer when you have a shower? I always feel a bit cold when I have a shower, my shower is in the bath.

Also, with free-standing baths, can you have a shower over them? Or does the water just spray out cos you can't make a shower curtain fit round them properly?

And, you know on free-standing baths they have those shower head things, are they just for rinsing your head when you're in the bath or can they go up high and you have a shower standing up?

Because they're less leaky than a shower over the bath, especially when comparing a cubicle to a curtain

You can get circular shower curtain rails that go all the way round. I wouldn't risk it though.

Should go all the way up; depends on the water pressure. But without a decent curtain round, you will splash everywhere.

Free standing shower - because it's much safer getting in and out and far easier for one. Fully enclosed so you don't need to worry about wetting the whole room and if your over 6 foot like me, you don't need to have the shower head pressed against the ceiling.

Wow, I wouldn't want to have to choose between a sink and a shower.

The reason I am asking is my bathroom is too small to have both a bath and a shower cubicle, at the moment my shower is over my bath which is fine apart from being a bit cold, and the whole bathroom has has its day rather and I want to improve it. Thankyou for helping me! Rr

A piece of advice I was given on here that you may want to take into consideration (I was thinking of replacing my bath with a shower cubicle when I re-fitted the bathroom)

Apparently houses with bathrooms tend to be more popular with young families so if there's any chance of you moving in the foreseeable future it may be worth keeping a bath.

You can get shower baths where one end of the bath is wider and has a door, so becomes a cubicle contained within the bath.

I agree that a house with a shower and no bath would be less appealing were I looking to move.

I was about to say that too! I wanted one of those, but they do not make them small enough for my bathroom i.e. 1650 mm long.

Thanks but too small. I would have lost 15cm of bath length, and I favour baths rather than showers, hence I do not want to lose so much bath length.

However, I did a search at work and found some 1650mm long ones. Odd. I searched at home and did not find any. Different search engine? I'm a little confused.

The house we own when we moved in had a reasonably large bathroom with wc, bath, and two massive sinks (sold em for £125) and massive whole wall length upvc windows. Its fair to say these looked a nightmare for having a bath up against the windows. the previous owners had attached what looked like another blue shower curtain that draped into the bath to stop water goin on the window. the bathroom was shot at and tiles were literally falling off the walls.

Our solution was to rip it all out put a bath back in, wc back in, one smaller sink where one sink was and put a D shaped (not quadrant) shower enclosure in instead of the biggest sink ( it was massive). This d shaped shower enclosure gives much more room than a quadrant shower, is easier to get that a bath, keeps the heat reasonably well, and as there is only one patch of tiling as long as u wipe down and spray shower shine after each shower keeps looking v good. I would definitely recommend an enclosure, but luckily we do have space for both (as yes i would imagine no bath would not be good for a little one!).

On a different note my parents have the bath/shower enclosure type combo and it works pretty well, probs best option if u need to combine the two. Its probs a bit bigger than a normal bath in width but will be much better at keepin heat in or not spraying water everywhere and definitely better than having the shower curtain keep getting u all the time! I'd generally say nice looking enclosures or bath/enclosure combos look more nice and modern than shower curtains.
