Is your ignore broken?

Just a tip, but none of the "black boxes" I'm aware of monitor cornering. There's no really sensible way to do this anyway. It's a shame though, because young people kill themselves and their friends on bends, first and foremost.mustmakealist wrote: »They will put a tracker in the car that monitors speed, acceleration, braking and cornering (I think ) and you can then log on to a 'dashboard' to see how well you're doing. There are restrictions on number of passengers and driving after 11pm that you can select when filling out your online form. We got a quote 2k cheaper than the majority of quotes through the normal insurance comparison sites and a good deal cheaper than the ones that came in at £9000+. Guess they weren't really interested in insuring a 17 yo lad in a 899cc little fiat!
My son is quite loking forward to getting his box and being able to log on to check his driving. I'll just have to be very careful if I get in it
Well done to your lad for getting on the road, can I recommend that he does some pass plus style training. Should really help to take the edges off of his driving before he gets out there unsupervised.0 -

With the black box you need to sit with anyone that could drive the car unattended, like the garage mechanic, and don't park it where you may need to move it at night, like the end of the drive blocking everyone in!0 -
I had a look at the companies that install the boxes and it had g-force sensors built in that monitors acceleration and braking.
I presume it will also record cornering forces.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Yes, but without knowing the severity of the bend, it's meaningless information.forgotmyname wrote: »I had a look at the companies that install the boxes and it had g-force sensors built in that monitors acceleration and braking.

Quite possible to measure high instantaneous G's laterally in fairly "normal" driving. Acceleration and braking I can understand - harsh braking = poor planning and observation, but you can get quite a G build up on a roundabout at normal speeds. Are they going to penalise you for that?
AS far as I knwo, non e of the "black box" companies take lateral G-forces into account, but they DO take acceleration/decceleration into account in your "dashboard" and when calculating "penalties". Happy to be proved wrong if anyone knows otherwise though!0
