Fell off the wagon big time last week, but I'm back with a vengence from today. My weekly budget is going to be

£10 for spending money and £30 for the food shop.

hiya boss... i usually put anything i have next roll it over to the following week... so for instance this week i only have to get £5.76 out of my bank... this means at the end of the month the amout in my spending account is much higher and can be transferred into savings (well my debt now) :D

Ahh, ok. Fair enough. I am going to set my budget on a week by week basis based on the week ahead rather than based on the previous week - just cos knowing me I would then get used to the extra money and find it difficult to get back into the groove!

Another question from me - as a relative newbie to this forum - when people go underbudget do they generally then put this back into current debts, or is it purely used as a 'management' tool? Or is that extra surplus added up and then used as a treat?

I personally am using it as a bit of the first two. Seeing stuff in writing always makes me more definite, and from this week I am going to use my Work Diary to record details so I can keep it accurate and keep myself within my spend.

Hi and welcome - this thread is a great inspiration I find. Even if I don't post everyday I am conscious of it when I think about spending.

So far as I am aware there aren't any set rules - the main thing is that you know what to include in your budget and account for in your spending (no cheating!)

I don't include the weekly grocery shopping or my petrol -though if either went over budget for the week I would reduce my "discretionary spend budget" accordingly.

The amount I set myself each week is cash and I put whatever is left over into a piggy bank. I've used this fund for various things - extra debt payments, unexpected car problems and paying to have a tree cut down after the gales. I find it useful to have this buffer zone but it wouldn't work for everyone.

Good luck with whatever system you choose
