Success - Halifax Mortgage PPI upheld

Options
I just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone me help and advice on this.

We recieved a letter last week to say that you claim was being upheld and that we would be getting ~£11,500 returned to us.

This is more than my rough calculations had come up with by some way so as you can image my jaw fit the floor when I read the details. Merry Christmas one and all!

Thanks again everyone, now I just have to wait to recieve the payment... any ideas on times for this to turn up?

  • Brilliant! Well done :)

If you don't mind me asking, when did you send your complaint in?

This is my first post! Today I received an offer from Halifax for my TMPPI and a PPI (which I didn't think was active), it details refund calculations on both policies and then under a heading What will happen now? says 'As your previously accepted claim is greater than your refund no further payment is due to you', we had refund of 3 years premiums on an overlapping PPI but that was for £644 and this offer is for over £8000. Is this standard wording or will I not get any refund? I have rung the Halifax helpline and for once they can not help. Any ideas would be great, thanks.

Is it possible that they are sending you a calculation for one account separately?.

If the redress is £8000 you should get something back.

Do you have the full breakdown of what they paid you and what they owe you? if you do and cannot get to know why this has happened then i would reject the offer and ask them to look at this again as the figures do not add up.

Thanks, the letter details the refund of premiums and interest on both accounts, nothing else. The previous refund of premiums was before all the PPI scandal started and that was only refunded for the three years we had the overlap - we paid 6 years extra on that ppi.
The Halifax helpline think it's a typing error, I've Googled for a standard reply from the Halifax with no luck.
Frustrating I have to wait over the long weekend to find out what I will be getting!

Thanks, we received a cheque for over £8000 yesterday. We were happy to accept only partial refund of our TMPP as we could see this was fair.
  • i have just put my complaint into the halifax for my mortgage ppi which ive had since 2001, i was not informed or made aware i could shop about for this. also i was told i need to take this out to increase my chances of getting the mortgage which i have on on some documents. my policy was duplicated. i have reciieved a letter telling my it is being investigated. how long is this process taking approx aware every case is different

i was not informed or made aware i could shop about for this.

Of course you were not. Halifax are tied agents and only offer their own product. There is and never has been any requirement for tied providers to tell you that you can buy elsewhere.
also i was told i need to take this out to increase my chances of getting the mortgage

The weakest form of complaint as it is just a verbal allegation without proof. Anyone can say they were told that and all the fraudulent complaints use it. An easy one to reject.

However, in your case, as it is Halifax, they are auto paying out on PPI so it wont matter.

  • I do have a typed letter from Halifax stating that if I took this policy out it would increase my chances of being excepted for a mortgage. Well just waiting on the reply from the team. Not holding my breath but we will see
  • Have you had any luck yet?
