Hi Ive been having trouble with my central heating for some time now but up untill now Ive had no money to fix the problem. Ive searched Powergens website for a price breakdown but had no luck. The house is freezing and I have 2 young kids so need it fixing asap. Anyone any experience. Am I best calling a local plumber? If so any reccomendations in WArrington/St helens area?

It only costs about that price for annual repair cover with British Gas, including annual inspection service. You can pay for it monthly too.
However, you cannot join with broken heating, as thet inspect first when you apply.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -

Yes I understand this but my house has been sold on and off for 6 months and I didnt intend to get the cover then. The reason for moving is money was too tight and just couldnt afford any additional expenses like that. I know when we move we probably will take cover.Saving needed to emigrate to Oz*September 2015*

Phone round a few heating engineers (note heating engineer rather than plumber) and ask them what their call out charges are, then you can make your choice.0

This is my wife's signature but Im bored this afternoon so am looking through the site. I have been plumbing for the best part of 30 years but for the last 25 I have been working solely on new build housing as a plumber who covers all aspects of plumbing from guttering to leadwork, gaswork, heating and all domestic services as well as sanitarywear etc like every other site plumber. Heating is only one bit of my job. A heating engineer is a person that does part of a plumber's job, it just makes me sick the way that people can call themselves an engineer like a gardener calls himself a soil engineer. It would be better for the OP to get a plumber from a building site who would probably work for - say £25 cash an hour. The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0

Incidentally, these people who advertise in yellow pages, a lot of them have just gone out and bought themselves a few bicycle spanners so that they can rip people off. A lot of them have no qualifications. If anyone at all is employed to work on gas you should insist on seeing their Corgi registration card which they wont mind showing you. The Institute of Plumbers members will be qualified plumbers. The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0
