Ok, may have missed something here, but, is/are the government replacing the old log book with a new red item.
All seems totally legit but in the case of shmbo's car there is an error in the detail.
Not asked for the old 1 to be sent to Nigeria or anything but !!!!!!???

Yep, its being rolled out slowly. When we bought our astra a few weeks ago OH got a new red book, and I had a replacement sent through which I received yesterday along with a printed sheet explaining that these are apparently safer and replacing the old green log books.0

They started sending them out in July I believe. They plan to exchange all current V5 documents for new ones by November 2012, due the theft of a load of blank V5's some time ago. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

Earlier than that even, I got one back in April.
Perhaps they are issuing them to the more recently registered cars first? I only know of my brothers, which he got in September two years after first registration. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
It was only a few years ago that the V5 was superceded by the V5C, to meet with EEC regs.. maybe the V5C isn't bendy enough, or needs to be converted into a metric size

It's because a large number - a Very large number - of blank old style V5C's were stolen, making it trivial to copy details over and 'clone' cars and yet obtain perfect looking documentation for the vehicle.
Moving to the red V5C's means that the blank old V5's will in time be worthless.0 -

The one I got yesterday was for my 12 year old Clio so I assume if they were going by age that would be way down the line yet. That said, I've not had the one for my 1982 TR7 yet.0
