Best vacuum for stairs?

Hi, I need a vacuum for my stairs - I have an upright dyson for floors but the hose doesn't reach the top of stairs very well and it's quite heavy to lift up and balance on them whilst vacuuming - so I'm looking for a light cylinder one for them.
Can anyone recommend one please?
Thanks

I love my Henrietta hoover - it is brill! I hate the upright ones - far too heavy for me and when I used to have stairs they were a nightmare. I got a good deal on it from Costco - think it was around £70? That was a year or so ago though. But I do recommend it!0

Good thread, I too have an up to date dyson and struggle with the stairs, was thinking of getting one of their hand held ones for steps and car......
The pipe on mine allows me to do about 4 steps then I have to hold it half way up....not easy at 6 months pregnant.0 -
I have a dyson all floors and struggle to reach the top stair with the hose, but before that I had a bigger dyson and it reached to the top with no problem.0

Put he dyson at the top of the stairs and work down to the middle try not to pull it on to your head.0

I've had this Dirt Devil model for 20 years. It's so powerful that if mine conked out I'd buy another one

....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)0 -
I used to have Dysons but eventually changed to Oreck. I got a deal buying an upright Oreck and it came with the small cylinder oreck which has a strap that goes over your shoulder, it makes doing stairs a breeze and is so powerful. You can buy the cylinder oreck separately for £100, they are on the first page of oreck.co.uk website if you want to see what they look like. Also the Customer Service is brilliant with oreck. They aren't a cheap option but far superior to Dyson in my own opinion. The upright is so lightweight and only uses 400 watts of power but the suction is far better than the Dysons imo.0

I bought one for this very purpose about 2 weeks ago from asda, its a bissell one and was 'rolledback' to less than £30.
I was looking at a much more expensive one but the sales assistant said she had one and it was great. Anyway, it seems to do the job really well and i have 4 children, 2 dogs and 2 cats to hoover up after! Really lightweight and is really quite powerful.

It says £33 above but i am sure it was £26 in store0 -
I bought a dyson handheld and although the charge doesn't last a massive amount of time (about 15 mins) I manage to get both sets of our staircase done.
It's the best money I've spent cause it's fantastic for stairs (no lugging a huge appliance around) and great for pet hairs on sofas, good for picking up on laminate after a sweep and generally what I use most on a daily basis.0 -
