Kindle cover has marked my pride and joy

That's cool, you're entitled to your opinion - and I have to admit, I am picky, very picky when it comes to such things. More so when its a gift from someone.
If I drop it or scratch the kindle myself (which I will do at somet point I expect) then that's down to me, but when I buy a product to maintain something in good condition and it does the opposite, it drives me nuts!0 -
No he's not. Why should he put up with a damaged product? If it had came out of the box like that you'd send it back.0

Do you actually need a cover for the Kindle?
It seems fairly scratch resistant to me, but I've only had mine for 6 weeks.Where would we be without tea?0 -
i think if the screen scratches it will annoy you as you will focus on it when you are readingThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

I've had my Kindle for well over 12 months now, it's been all over with me, scrunched up in my bag, plus on a few flights. Not a scratch on the screen. I do have a soft cover I use with it if I'm going to shove it in a bag, but that's all. Love my Kindle though...0

As it was a gift how do you know a sleeve wasn't included and not passed on to you? Was everything given to you as new in sealed packages or was it already set up and the person who gave it to you could have not used the sleeve?
Anyway, chances of getting the manufacturer to pay are miniscule, and you didn't buy it so you have no rights with the seller either. The person who bought it should take it up with the retailer... if he/she didn't get a sleeve that is.0 -

Advising a possible solution to the problem fine. Advising the consumer rights on the issue at hand fine.
Telling someone your opinion and then making out you're right just because you are willing to put up with it, not fine.
The OP in entitled to resolution, either through trying the cleaning suggestions made or resolving it through the retailer - like I say, your opinion, like the OP graciously accepted (respect for that OP) is your opinion, it doesn't make it right and you shouldn't criticise others for not listening to you.0 -
Just like to add, I too, take care of my belongings, and if damaged and down to me, I have to live with it.
But if I buy something to protect it and it fails miserably, damn right I would complain and request (1st of all) a replacement. then demand if requesting did not work.
Would only add, I would not try to clean it with aftershave or anything else, as, if that doesn't work, and you return it to them, they will state you have tampered with it and in fact was not the cover that marked it but your cleaning solution.
So be warned, before you try cleaning it.0 -
So I've emailed the company that supplied the case, and now waiting for a response ...
Although the goods (Kindle and case) were a gift, I'm in the fortunate position of living with the generous person who gave me them ;-)
Good advice about not trying to clean off the marks .. I'll wait to see what response I get before dowsing in strong alcohol.0
