    I need help. I live in Reading and my wheelie bin has been stolen by some cretins who want to use it to view the rock festival nearby. Despite the fact that I reported the theft to the police the council is refusing to replace the non-recycling bin unless I pay them £40. Is there anything I can do?

    i like to burn wheelie bins when i was a kid - nothing funnier.

    Is it still funny when the Police come and pay you a visit?
  • My partner is a bin man and he says to say have a word with the bin men and tell them what has happened they can phone up their boss and say the wagon let go of the bin and it went into the back of the wagon- he says you should get one for free. Fingers crossed

    My wheelie bin which was inside my private yard got set on fire by someone, it was extremely upsetting as it was a string of anti social incidents that seemed to be aimed at me. I had to pay ten pounds to get the council to deliver me a new one, and had to be in to sign for it which was a real pain, I contacted the police and gave the council my crime number, spoke to various people but they still said I had to pay.

    Now I understand ten pounds isn't a huge amount of money but it's the principle, i'm paying for someone elses crime.

    Its really simple.
    If its a brown recycling type wheelie bin,it isnt yours anyway.

    It is the property of the local authority and will have their name/logo stamped on it.

    You are under no legal obligation to provide storage/housing or care for it and you only do it as a goodwill gesture.

    Kindly inform them in writing that their wheelie bin has been stolen from outside your premises and that as it is their property, they need to replace it otherwise you cannot comply with their recycling policy/procedure.

    simples
    Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

    Over the course of the last summer, my 'brown' wheelie bin disappeared.

    My council will only supply another if I give them a crime #.

    I don't want to bother the coppers for what is obviously a waste of their time, plus what will be the implications for my household insurance - do I have to declare a recorded theft if I wanted to change insurers and will that affect the premiums?

    i have the answer to the bin theft that is going on today, I have designed my own lock and works great please feel free to get in touch

    You could use a chain and padlock which is much cheaper, you want £100,000 for a company for I value at four pence ha'penny but mainly because you failed to notice the OP was providing you with a market opportunity in 2007.

    For those reasons - I'm out! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
  • Just rung the council as my bin went missing the other day. They are going to bring a new one (at their own convenience) in 7-10 days but there's no charge and they were really cool about it.
