I can tell you it was not the AA, they dont do stunts like that, you do get what you pay for in breakdown insurance, the lesser companies are like poor insurance companies, they use terms and hidden clauses to get out of providing the insurance you pay for.
A friend of mine I was out with was refused help by one of these budget breakdown companies because he had two wheels on a grass verge !, only just on, so he said hang on ill push it off, sorry they said, you can not call us out for the same fault twice and left us stuck there , luckily I was in the AA, as a passenger they came out, fixed the car and away we went, it was only a relay for the fuel pump, £3 for the part which he had and off we go.
It was not even my car, which I explained, no problem they said, if you are a passenger we are on our way.
Sorry to disagree but the AA DO pull stunts like that.
We needed them to come out to our car, which was covered by OH firms company. Admittidly we didn't haev the card and therefore the a/c number, we provided them with ALL details needed to find us. They denied point blank we had a policy. We then believed work may have stopped it and not informed us. As they were denying we had a policy we had a choice remain stuck or pay for a new one.
As we had four young children and was many miles from home we chooseto pay for a new one.
On return home we find the details and OH confirms with work it is still current etc. It was. We then called AA again and asked them what they thought they was playing at? They admitted they'd made a mistake and yes we were fully reimbursed. But we'd have been stuck if we'd had no cash to take out the replacement policy that they said we needed, when we didn't as we had one.0 -
Although legally you probably cant fight it, theres nothing to stop you writing to them, explaining the circumstances and asking for even a partial refund as a goodwill gesture since you've been their customer for years (i'm assuming this part).
You could also enquire if they can refund the £49 minus an "admin" fee to change the vehicle details on your original policy......of course this would mean your cover will run out sooner but its worthwhile checking to see if your policy T&C's allow you to change the vehicle registered and if there is any cost associated with this.
If the T&C's allow it and they have charged you for a new policy as opposed to allowing you to amend the old one, you may have grounds for a refund
As the saying goes, the devil's in the details. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0
