It's not really about whether you should be able to change a tyre or not. Quite frankly, some people (men included) would rather pay for the privilege of having someone do it for them, and seeing as this is something that's included in breakdown cover for no extra charge (unlike, say, running out of petrol) they're perfectly entitled to do so.

What this is about is whether it's reasonable to charge £49 and treat the OP as a new customer given that she'd neglected to tell them she'd changed car. Aren't we getting a little distracted by the 'you should be able to change your own wheel' argument? Her question would still stand had something else happened to her car, something that she couldn't possibly be expected to resolve herself.

Both my wife and daughter would have easily been able to change the wheel in less than half that time.

    Good for them.

Christ. If my husband changed a tyre it would fall off immediately. And the car would probably explode.

I've opened a hornet's nest it seems. Sorry, I didn't mean to start on a debate about it. Sometimes even green flag take an hour to come out. My BH had to call them out at the weekend, said they would be there within the hour, actually took them 1hr 10 mins, I don't hold it against them tho, it was at a new build property so they couldn't find it :)

Try harder to understand. I can't do it. And even if I could I wouldn't because I pay for a service that will do it for me.

Try a bit harder, this afterall is a money saving site. This site promotes if it's easy to do yourself you should not pay for it...and changing a wheel ( as opposed to a tyre ) is easy to do.
