Stick a leaflet for obedience school through their door :P

If that fails, books a few weeks off work, wake up an hour earlier than they usually and start playing loud music ;)

Ok jk about that last part although it would serve them right.

As for dogs being fine outside.....that might be all fine and well during summer, but here we reached temperatures of -20c last year. Pets can get hypothermia and frostbite too you know :) Their coat/fur works just like a jacket does with us, it traps air. That doesnt mean they're immune to the cold though.

  • I dont understand why people have dogs if they leave them outside ALL the time :S

If the dog is shivering in the garden all day then it is clearly not comfortable being left outside at this time of year (unsurprisingly), it is therefore your duty as a good citizen to report this to the RSPCA who will take it up with the owner and if a suitable solution is not provided will take the dog off them.

They sound like arses anyway. Perhaps they deserve to lose their pup to a better home.

  • Do you think the landlord is aware that they have a dog ?

Im not a dog owner myself but know loads and I don't know of any that shut there dogs outside all day.

It seems odd that it was kept inside at the old house yet at the new one it suddenly runs the risk of ruining the carpet so gets shoved out in the cold !? Why choose a house that is clearly not suitable for a dog if that is the case.

I would speak to them again and advise them of the steps you will take if they can't sort it out. Like contacting landlord, rspca, council etc. and take it from there.

I'd question this. They may not be able to tell the time exactly but they can be accustomed to a schedule. My parents dog knows when its time for her walk. She'll come and make puppy dog eyes at my dad bang on 10am for example.

Of course if its raining, she'll stand looking outside before plonking her bum down and refusing to move. You can lift her out the house and put her down outside and the bum will just go straight down again, as soon as you walk back to her....she'll run back in the direction of the house.

    ^^ nope ^^

as long as the dog is healthy the RSPCA won't do anything. They won't take the dog off them just because it's put in the garden all day.

OP, have a word with your neighbours again and suggest they get the dog a Kong. If it only barks for the first 15 minutes or so when he's put out, it should keep him / her entertained for a while.

and will people just stop suggesting the RSPCA just because a dog lives outside. 1 - lots of dogs live outside, this one is just barking and not being abused. 2 - the RSPCA can't do anything about anything, they're nothing more than the Salvation Army with kennels and leads. They have no right of entry, so a quick f*** off will see them on their way.

I was in the same position as Norfolk_Jim, we didn't realise our dog was barking and being a nuisance until the RSPCA came to our door for a surprise inspection!! We passed of course and all we needed to do was keep the dog inside (he was only left for a couple of hours in the morning btw!). it was seriously upsetting to know that whomever was being annoyed didn't feel they could come to us first, we are very nice neighbours and would have done anything we could to remedy it. All I wanted to say really was well done you for trying to sort it out amicably! I guess you could try the neighbours again with an ultimatum but it sounds as though this might put their backs and it it could potentially become nasty so maybe RSPCA or council is your next port of call. I hope you get it sorted, I live opposite a park and there is a dog walker over there at 6 every morning and her dog never shuts up! Nothing I can do about it though :(
