Cat beds

Do you think that they are a necessity?
We had one for our kitten when we got him, it was more of a material box which had a blanket inside. He peed in it one day though and I threw it out. He also peed and pood on the bathroom mat which I looked up and saw that some cats dislike the rubber backing - vet checked him when getting his jags so no underlying problem.
Anyways I was going to buy him a new bed and haven't got round to it yet, he tends to sleep on blankets on the couch/footstool or in one of the beds.
Is it worth buying him one? In a way I feel guilty at him not having his own bed
Also, how much should he be eating? I got him in October and he was 15 weeks at the time so he is now around 23 weeks/6months.

Nope.
Boxes, armchairs, handbags, shoes, curtains, windowsills, bookcases, open newspapers and human beds are all perfectly adequate for felines.
Unless you have a dog. Then that dog's bed will be the best cat bed in the world, ever.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
I don't have a dog although I would LOVE one. I had a dog growing up and loved her so much. Partner and I both work though so no one to take dog walkies.
The windowsill is a favourite of his to sleep on. I sometimes feel sorry that he is looking out longingly as we don't let him out. He has been out a few times when I am taking bin out and he did escape once, partner found him an hour later sitting on a fence meowing.
Another favourite sleeping place for him is my laptop! Which can be very annoying when I am trying to use it, he was trying a minute ago but has given up and is lying next to me watching the screens movements and pouncing....0 -

You forgot Jute shopping bags! My cats (and kitten) love them. Plus fleece blankets.
(The dog loves laying (and sleeping) on our clothes if he gets the chance, which is usually quite often because the children think the floor is a better place than the linen basket!)0 -
we got 2 cat beds on the wall - totally ignored
kitten bed nice soft and cozy - ignored infact its where all the pets chews and toys live.
radiator bed georgie loved until i washed it - wont touch it now
my computer chair, or ds computer chair are the sleeping places of choice and gizmo sleeps on top of the dresser with his mat.. its black with his fur but i daren't wash it.
so i wouldnt worry about buying a bed just for cats, they will find somewhere they will call their own regardless if you need it or not0 -
I agree, I have a blanket over two of our dining chairs as they love sleeping on them, they have a sofa in the conservatory which is theirs, very often sprawled out on that. They do have 2 beds, the most popular when it's chilly is the igloo style one. But, they also happily sleep in cardboard boxes as well if one gets left out!Avon Lady since 2009 - I help on the Avon hints & tips thread to help other reps/new sales leaders as I was helped so much by it when I first started out :A0

My cat absoultely adores her radiator bed. She was always the one hunting down the hot radiators though, my other cat just sleeps on the sofa. She's in her radiator bed literally all day, even when it's not on. She has a puzzled look on her face when that happens though, bless! What matters most is how well you walk through the fire0

Sorry! I lumped it in with the handbags - just the one cat, obsessed with the things as beds.
Fleece blankets aren't as popular as fleece jumpers, though.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
My lot love their beds... and the dog beds... and my beds... and the sofas. Their favourites though are the beds we have on top of the wardrobes and the fridge. I also leave their carriers out as beds which they love and also saves a lot of problems when it comes to visiting the vets!0

Don't forget the cat carrier (but only when you don't want them in it), or bottom of the wardrobe on one of my suits they have pulled down. I think the only place ours don't sleep is in the bath or on the toilet lol.0

Daisy either sleeps on the bed,on the armchair (sometimes hardly waits for me to get out of it!) or on a baby changing poufe thing I got off a lady on Freecycle. She also has a cat bed...unused!0
