Accidentally placed order - can I refuse delivery?

Stupidly, I just accidentally ordered some clothes online. It's a high street fashion store.

This was genuinely a huge accident and I've already emailed them trying to cancel the order, and will ring them tomorrow, but if they say that I can't, can I refuse the package when it arrives?

Can't believe my own stupidity sometimes! :o

As you ordered online you will be covered by the distance selling regulations and you will be able to return them without penalty, I can understand the concept of 1 click on Amazon for example but how can you accidentally pay for clothes online? I am not having a go here but you would have to put a credit card or debit card in surely at that point it would be apparent that you were placing an order?

I agree not usre how you would accidently enter username, card details online lol, but with the distance selling regs you have a certain time limit (7days I think) to contact the company to say that you will be returning it. I think as well, that due to you sending it back just becasue you dont want it you will have to pay for postage

That would depend on the T&C of the store. What's the shop, OP?

What if the order is cancelled by email and delivery is refused? (Assuming delivery company don't just leave it somewhere and sign for it themselves). Does OP still pay for return delivery? (I'm assuming retailer T&Cs cover paying to return under normal circumstances).

You can notify them of your intent to cancel within 7 working days starting the day after you receive the item/s. Although this way you may be liable for return postage costs if their T&C's say so.

However, you can cancel before receiving the goods, refuse delivery and they cannot treat this as breach of contract. The effect of a notice of cancellation is to treat the contract as if it had not been made. And thats the important part to remember should a courier leave it with a neighbour etc.

Why wouldn't they refund the full amount?

Then you'd be wrong - read up on the Distance Selling Regulations (DSRs).

Spammer building up a post count to start posting links, I suspect. Putting content in that is slightly relevant to the OP to make it appear that they might not be a spammer.

It was actually really easy. I have already shopped with them, and my store card details are saved with them. I had forgotten about that because I don't use the store card any more (I cut it up months ago), and I was reviewing the website. Ease of use and checkout process and everything. So when the button said "Confirm and pay" I clicked on it, thinking it would take me to another page to enter my card details which I obviously wouldn't do. But it didn't, because it already had my store card details saved, so that was it, I'd placed the order.

I rang them this morning and cancelled it, no fuss. So a bit of worry over nothing really.
