........I'm not bothered anyway, as long as my car is insured that is all that concerns me.

Your present insurer looks to have "taken your word", when you have in fact mislead them, as you had no NCD to use on this policy, as it was still in use on your old one.

(You would have been "in trouble" if they had found out - which they would have done in the event of a claim as they will want proof of your NCD then!)

You weren't "properly insured", and your advice should not be followed!!

    But they did know.

When I insured my new car the insurance company knew that I wasn't canceling my old policy because it would cost more to cancel it than any amount I would be refunded.

The reason I went elsewhere was because my broker (Swinton) told me my old insurer wouldn't insure my new car as they didn't insure new cars, I had an old banger, I would have to cancel the insurance and pay a cancellation fee and the new company that would insure my car wanted £100 more than I had been quoted online from a different company, so I told them to get stuffed.

All this was told to my present insurer.

That is why I am surprised at your advice.

So you are saying that someone can't have 2 insurance policies on 2 different cars and not have a NCD on both of them?

    Why not?

But they didn't know about the true level of your NCB. Inadvertently you may have invalidated your insurance.

    How did they not know?

Because they took your word for it and didn't ask for proof.
  • Then again, maybe my insurance was £130 without any NCD.

    From my policy documents

    No Claim Discount 60%
    Previous insurer redacted
    Previous policy number Not Required
You are not required to submit written proof of your No Claims Discount, but you must supply your previous insurer details.

    Which were supplied.

But as you have previously been told you cannot use the same NCD for two policies in force at the same time.

OP, why not transfer the existing policy to your new car?
