Doesn't really help the situation though? As they attempted to deliver they'll still charge for it.

No worries guys... I'll just have to "woman" up and find an excuse to tell her so I can somehow get her to refund it herself and possibly get a different one whilst offering to pay on top.

Could you say you are fussy about the comfort?

Beds are a very personal thing and I wouldn't like someone else buying one for me. When I bought mine, I was in the shop for ages laying on different beds until I found one I was really comfortable on.

Does she know your child sleeps with you? If yes then simply explain about the height.

(I'll refrain from comments about the sleeping arrangements).

You've got more than a consumer rights problem. Why is your MIL buying you a bed? Some might see that as generous (it is). But it's fraught with problems. Beds need to be chosen personally. I think it's odd that she's taken it upon herself to just go out and decide to buy you something you don't like. Did you ask her to buy you a bed?? What does your husband think?
