lastminute.com moved my flight to next day

Hi,
About a month ago i booked 5 nights In Las Vegas flying out 15th Jan with Virgin, through lastminute.com and as part of the same booking i arranged airport parking at Gatwick airport. Its gone up a few hundred pounds since i booked.
Today i received an email informing me they have had to move my flight to the same time but 24 hours later, and i can either have a refund of the flight price (not full refund of parking and hotel) or accept the change. I have called lastminute.com's india call centre and they were perplexed when i asked about the hotel or airport parking for that extra day.
They are going to call back in the next few days, and no doubt will ask if i want to pay for an extra night in the hotel and parking or cancel. Has anybody experienced this before. Where do i stand?
I think that as they are moving the flight then they should bare the cost of the extra night hotel and parking. Im sure people will come back and say if im getting an extra day i should pay for it, but i had a budget when making the original booking, which i have stuck to and was happy with. If i wanted the extra day i would have booked it in the first instance.
Thanks
Carl

It's not clear until you read on.

This thread has now had 110 views but no one has been able to help. Could somebody help me move it to the consumer rights forum where i might have more luck.
Thanks0 -
As a frequent flyer on the virgin-vegas route (love the place) i very much doubt virgin will compensate you.
All they have to offer you is a full refund which they have.
If you complain they will more than likely give you some flying club miles that you could use for a miles+money fare in the future.
Not what you wanted to hear but better to have a heads up.
Does your travel insurance cover you at all?
Hopefully lastminute will offer you some help. good luck
Avoid the stratosphere and the Imperial palace. both are pretty grotty tho the IP is mid strip so a great location to explore. Strat is miles away from the action.0 -
When BA did this to us in Malaysia they paid for the extra night in the hoteltravelover0

Thanks im only dealing with Lastminute.com at the moment as thats who i made the booking with and they are asking me to be patient while they look into it. Can i complain to Virgin as well, even though i didnt book direct?
Ive been vegas before, stayed in MGM then, but wanted a more central location this time so staying in Paris.0 -
It wont hurt to give Virgin a call. Although they only have to offer a refund they may help you out if you appeal to their better nature.
If they wont offer you any money or help with accomodation ask if you can have an invite to the upper class lounge at gatwick. Ive had them do this twice for me in the past. In fact they have offered this for next years trip for 4 of us. was originally just 2 but as it will be my daughters 21st the day we fly they agreed to extend the invite to all of us.
Ive never stayed at Paris but as you say its pretty central and opposite my fav attraction. (bellagio fountains)
Ive stayed at MGM about 3 or 4 times and in september stayed at the MGM Signature. cant wait to go back again

Did they say WHY the date had changed ?
Virgin fly daily to Vegas usually so it isn't likely it's a schedule change.
If it is their mess up then there's no reason why you should have to pay extra. I'd start by checking with Virgin if your original flight is still operating.
If you do need to pay for an extra night-don't book it with LM before checking elsewhere for deals -if it's at the same hotel -the hotel can link the two bookings at checkin so you won't have to move rooms or check out and in again.
(I once booked a night at Imperial Palace for the grand sum of about £9-Didn't actually stay overnight -checked in at 8am -then walked back to the Flamingo and checked out there and trundled the bags down to IP after breakfast -dumped the bags -went out for the day-came back showered and picked up the bags before catching a 10pm flight. Room was very motelly but clean -and I always do well in their casino) If funds were really tight I'd stay there again as I spend almost no time in my room in Vegas anyway. The Strat is too far out for my tastes too-although if you have a car -the rooms are very nice)I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

Update:
I’ve now phoned lastminute.com 3 times and each time they have said that it is with the relevant department but I need to be patient. I’ve asked if I am going to have to bare the cost of the extra day, and they can’t say, they said they first need to check if there is availability and then how much the extra night will cost. It very frustrating, as how can it possibly take so long to sort out an extra night at a hotel, and all the while I'm left in limbo. They have called me back once, only to tell me that they should have an answer in 72 hours (by Monday). I have sent a strongly worded email to lastminute.com with the hope this would speed things up but I haven’t received a response to this yet either.
Its very frustrating, and it really doesn’t help that the call centre is in India, where there is a bit of a language barrier and nobody that can actually deviate from a script to sort things out.0
