quote for double glazing

Had anglian come out and give me a quote, they straight away told me i will get cheaper quotes but the windows come with a 15 yr guarntee and are gas filled, not air filled, saving on heating costs.
Quote was - £2950 cash, needing a 10% deposit
or
£2349 fiance option costing £49 a month over 6 years with option to pay any amount off at any time. Can pay the deposit to keep quote with delaying fitting for 6mths.
Quote was for 3 windows and 1 back door with cat flap.
Windows measure:
kitchen - 83cm x 114cm
bathroom - 102cm x 119cm (actual window in is much smaller, quote includes knocking out bricks to make window this size)
bedroom - 147cm x 116cm
Is quote fair? does it represent quality for money or are other companies out and about just as good?

I don't know what type of windows you're buying, but have a look at these prices: http://www.screwfix.com/app/sfd/cat/cat.jsp?cId=101919&ts=19299
You could get a local builder to put them in for you. I bet it would be cheaper.
I need to replace two windows and that is what I plan to do. :beer:0 -
Whatever you do, don't go near Weatherseal! :rotfl:0

Difficult to know if fair price or not, particulary if your having a window enlarged. It also depends on number and type of openers, style of windows etc. Best bet is to get a couple of other local reliable firms to quote. Ensure they are quoting on same spec(apples for apples etc
)
We just had some windows quoted by 3 companies. lowest price was 1500 highest 2100. As with everything it's worth taking your time and shopping around until your confident your making the correct choice.0 -
3 grand for 3 windows and a door are you seriously asking if that's a good price ?
Pay no more than £1700, and don't touch Anglian with a bargepole.0 -
As a Australian where double glazing doesn't exist, yes i am serious if the price is good or not.
Like i said above they told me outright i would get cheaper quotes but the price reflected the windows being gas filled and a 15 year guarantee.
I have no idea what the 'normal' price would be, especially on this type of product/ re cost of windows depending on size.Mummy to two girls: October 2013 and February 20160 -
Apologies if I caused offence
The big firms like Anglian, Staybrite etc are a waste of time IMHO, the windows are over priced and of reasonable quality, they pay the fitters on a price which means the fitting is rushed, and tends to be poor quality. The sales tactics are rubbish i.e. pay the deposit or lose the fitting for 6 months and the price etc.
Most double glazing comes with a ten year warranty, so I would shop around with local firms which have a good reputation.
BTW where do you live ?0 -
We used safestyle and they quoted us £11,000 this was for 2 doors and 8 windows all brown frames, we got him down to £5000 after 3 hours of the salesmen working out special prices, I am glad we did it and stuck to our price of £5000 I phoned around as well and it was about the right price.0

Thanks for the info, have a clearer idea now on price.
I live in Nottinghamshire by the way.
Like the tactics of getting the price down, never thought to do that.Mummy to two girls: October 2013 and February 20160 -
Thanks so much for the info on prices. Had a new company out during the week.
Original quote -£4800
Discount quote - £2800
Price on the day - £1950
Sales tactics got price down to - £1500 and for the better quality windows as well, with fire hinges and night lock.Mummy to two girls: October 2013 and February 20160 -
its extortionate and as allready said by someone else in their reply DONT touch anglian at all, i found them absolutly appalling when i enquired about having mine done, thet asked me why my husband wasnt present at the meeting in my home, when i told them he had passed away they asked for some sort of proof:eek: and then wanted assurance that i could actually pay for their overpriced windows . get a local builder to do it, they are just as good.continualdiamond wrote:Had anglian come out and give me a quote, they straight away told me i will get cheaper quotes but the windows come with a 15 yr guarntee and are gas filled, not air filled, saving on heating costs.
