I work for BT, he needs a MAC...as he has already confirmed, why would i make it up?

It's not FTTH (Fibre To The Home/Premise), its to the cabinet, where copper runs the last lag, as i said. It is provided down the same line, so it needs a MAC code.

socmwils23 - Because you have transferred your line over, and given them your MAC, your o2 service will automatically cease. You can ring them just to clarify this point if you like. The day your service starts with BT your service with o2 will stop. Because it will take 2 weeks minimum to transfer, o2 already have their notice. You will get your final bill in about a months time.

Gordon - If he cancelled his broadband with o2, there would be "tags on the line" from o2 for approximately 2 weeks, meaning he wouldn't be able to place a broadband order within that time. That is why MACs are used, to stop that from happening, to give a seamless transfer in service.

You shouldn't need a MAC code as you're not migrating a service. You're cancelling one service with O2 then setting up a completely new service with BT.

Wrong, he is migrating his broadband from one supplier to another - that is what a MAC is for.

If he cancels with O2, they can charge him a cease fee of £30 passed onto to them by BT Openreach for the disconnection.

It is silly to cancel with the old supplier and then order with the new supplier.

And I work in Number Portability for a large Telco. What is your point?

I didn't need a MAC code when moving my BT landline and O2 Broadband to Sky LLU. There were no tags, no loss of service and it went swimmingly.

He can not migrate his ADSL broadband to BT Infinity, they are completely different services.

He needs a PAC to keep his number when porting his landline to BT. And that depends whether BT and O2 have a porting agreement in place.
