Water Bill

Options
We pay £400 per year for our water bill in Gloucestershire, two 6 monthly instalments of £199 live in a 3 bedroom semi-detached house no children and our water usuage is low/medium. I think that we are paying alot as I know someone in the same county paying less how can we query this and get the fee re-adjusted is this possible (seven trent).

Thanks,

Garcon6

Water rates are based on the rateable value of the house you are in. The someone you know could live in a smaller house.

Have you thought about a water meter, usually much cheaper, you pay for what you use. This can be monitored and if you find it more
expensive you can have it removed after a year.

I live in a semi in N Yorks, 2 of us, home all day, on a metre and it costs us £20 a month, much cheaper than our rates used to be.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

The £400 bill is based on your Rateable Value(RV). This is nothing to do with council tax band, or indeed how much water you use. The people you know with lower bills either have a lower RV or a meter.

There is no possibility of getting your RV changed. The option as stated above is to get a meter fitted for free.

You could also check if you are paying for Surface Water Drainage(SWD) and if you can claim relief from this charge - do a search on MSE for Surface Water Drainage.

OP doesn't actually say if they are on RV or metered (though seemingly the former).

If metered with Severn Trent(who cover Gloucester)I don't think they would be billed in that manner i.e. £199 for two installments.

STW would offer 2 instalments of the total bill for RV billing..ie half April first and half October first so I would suggest it is RV billing rather then metered as although there are 2 metered bills per year from STW it would be for different amounts each time.
