How to improve credit score after DRO?
Hello
My DRO finished in September and I am now making attempts to start rebuilding my credit score. I have read through the advice on here and applied for a very high rate credit card (Vanquis) with the intention, of course, of using it monthly and repaying it monthly. I was rejected
I have also applied for a low rate instant access savings account with my current bank (Co-op) - I wanted to start a savings account and thought that it might be a good idea to go with the Co-op, who know of my DRO and gave me a current account a year ago despite that.. I got rejected
I have covered other bases - am on the electoral role, have checked my credit report for any anomalies, I pay utility and boradband bills by direct debit (in fact, I recently got a new phone contract with my existing broadband provider (3) that I have ahd an account with for 4 years, without problem).
I have had no kind of confirmation that the credit card accounts under my DRO have been terminated.. I understood that this would not be necessary..
Any advice on where to go next please? Should I apply for a different high-rate credit card (another one on Martin's list)? Am I supposed to contact the credit card providers (under my DRO) to ask them to do something...???
Thank you for your invaluable help.

I'm in the same situation as you. My DRO finished in June and as advised on here I cleared up my credit files so everything shows as settled. I'm also on the electoral register and have a landline (I read somewhere this helps show stability).
I applied in November for a Vanquis card - Rejected. Vodafone £5 PM Sim Only - Rejected. My friend who also has done a DRO that finished a year ago can't get anything either.
I'm afraid it looks like we're all in the same boat and we're going to have to wait a long time before we can even start the rebuilding process.
Anyone reading this PRE-DRO - If you can try and keep some sort of credit open whether that be a CC/Catalogue/Mobile Phone because you'll need something to help you rebuild your credit after the DRO has finished. If it wasn't for the mistakes I made in the past (and learned from), I wouldn't be who and where I am today. It doesn't matter if you've cocked up, what matters is that you put it right and apologise. x0 -
Thank you for your reply thepurplegoldfish, yes i think that's good advice to think about this before applying. It's great to have had a DRO but I worry about what will happen in the future when I might be in a position to require a mortgage. Ah well, onwards and upwards...
