    I cut my finger...(sobs)
It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.
  • I haven't been directly hit by the 'squeeze' but I did make a career decision to take a 25% pay cut, so I have made a few cuts to my spending:

    - Switched from train travel to coach travel, saving £50 a week.
    - Started doing microwave jacket potatoes for lunch instead of buying sandwiches, saving £20 a week.
    - Joined an audience club so that I can go out to see shows every evening, meaning no need for heating or internet / TV at home.

    What have I cut?

    1. My expected future net worth by about $10,000,000
    2. Holidays
    3. Eating out
    4. Nights out
    5. A nice house
    6. All my savings

    Oh well. Mustn't grumble eh.
  • I've cut everything really. Not driving as much as I'd like, heating not on as much as I'd like (I sit wrapped in a duvet like they do in winter in Cape Town), trying not to even go to the supermarkets so that I don't spend too much. Get all the bargains I can from the Grabbit Board here. Opened loads of current accounts for incentives.

My hairdresser now comes round to me and is cheaper than going to the salon which suits both of us as she doesn't formally work on a Tuesday. Already been doing the PAYG thing, never had SKY. Have also cut down on beauty things so now have eyebrows like caterpillars, nails that are awful, etc. Once my deficit is back on track, I will introduce a few little vanities, but for now, I'm being very frugal. Bought no new clothes for 2 years (and usually buy on deal/promotion/charity shop anyway). Have always and for ever gone to the library in whatever country I've been in. Two holidays last year, but cheap ones (Turkey and Menorca - very good deals).

So have been living fairly cheaply and not doing everything I would like to do, drink, buy, and eat. But within these confines, am managing OK and getting on top of my deficit (but I have no debt/mortgage or even stooze!)

Buying a silver coin every month and thinking that's going to help you into a bigger, nicer house is somewhat bizarre.

Take a step back. Do you honestly believe that an investment strategy that requires only a £20 investment per month is going to lead to your desired end-point?

Have you ever thought about getting a mortgage? It's a more conventional route to home ownership.

Poor old Travelman. Here he was portraying himself as some hotshot investor, and in a few threads he has revealed that his total holding is 500 ounces and that he currently only buys an ounce a month.

Curiously, those posts have now been deleted. By him perhaps, when he realised how foolish he looks?

So . . the silver ramper has revealed that his entire portfolio is worth around £10,000 and he is investing an amazing £20 a month extra.

And yet he comes out with bizarre lines that this will be enough to buy him a small house soon.

    How incredibly embarassing for him . . . .
