Parking Signs

I live on a small estate, our road is adopted by the local council. There is a road that circles an open space which is an unadopted road, this open space has what looks like a homemade "no parking" sign on it. My husband parked our car in the only space available, on what is a part of our road that passes the open space. A notice was left on our car basically asking us not to park there in future. It states that parking there was inconsiderate and unauthorised and that the no parking sign is clearly visable. The letter is finished with "(name of the road) management company limited" at the bottom. We are residents of the road, have been for 22 yrs and we have never heard of there being a "management company" for the road, let alone being asked if we would like to be part of the said management.

Is what they have done legally binding

You can check whether a limited company really exists at the companies house website. No charge (unless you want a copy of their accounts etc).
  • I looked up the company name, it does exist but its not a company in this area, it is a farm somewhere, the company management names listed don't mean anything either
  • So your husband blocked access to the highway?

No he didn't block any access/highway at all. He was parked on the road where we live (although further down from our house, because someone else was parked outside our house) that happens to pass by the top of an open space that is, on the other three sides classed as unadopted road, ie a U shape road, with a road passing the top,and houses around the other sides, he was parked at the top centre of the U. The land in the middle of th U is open grassland, no buildings at all.
Sorry it is hard to explain the layout
  • Just ignore it and carry on parking. If someone wants you to move they will come and find you.

I get this down my lane, people putting up no parking signs on their walls and gates and generally having a whine. But it is a different matter when they have their friends and family over blocking the whole lane up.
  • I don't get what he's done. Other than park on the road.
  • I don't reckon he has done anything illegal, it's this so called management company, whoever they may be, putting up the No Parking sign,I need to know if they can enforce it. Can there even be a management company without all of the residents being informed. To be honest I am disabled and would much rather park outside our own house, its just not always possible. We keep ourselves to ourselves, say hi to people if we see them, thats about it. I didn't think the people in our road were like this, we all have the same parking probs. We are going to ignore it for now, with any luck we won't have to park there again but it is down to who gets the spaces first. Oh well, tis the season of goodwill, or so I was led to believe.
  • Make yourself a home made permit and stick it in your window.

If you are disabled you can ask the council to put up a sign outside your house for disabled parking only
Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam
  • I have my blue badge, to get a disabled bay outside the home I have to be permanently in a wheelchair, which thankfully I'm not.
