HappyIdiotTalk: if no joy at homebase, Wilkos were also selling them - 6 plants for £3.49, although that was last week. worth a try though.

I'll give Wilco's a try first, its closer than Homebase. That said I'm not sure if my Wilko's has closed down. My Wilco's on Mucklows Hill is right next door to a massive B&Q and I think they stole all the business.

6 strwab plants for £3.49 in Lidl today, I know you can get cheaper but I'm addicted to buying plants.
I grew minw in a grow bag last year - they were sad cases that I bought for about 50p and got lovely fruit and about 8 runners off of each one

So two more questions. Do I put the strawberrys outside in growbags straight away or do they need to be kept inside for a bit first? Also how do you feed them for best results.

  • I just re-potted mine into bigger pots when I got home. They live outside the front of my house (south facing) during the day and get moved into my porch overnight. they seem to be thriving. God question about what to feed them, I haven't a clue!

Happy, mad and jann.... I'd say IMHO that they can go straight outside but if they've been in a warm shop bring the in or cover them if frost is expected. They are perfectly hardy but might get a shock from going straight out if they're not used to it. I bought some the other day and they're quite happy outside.
As for feeding I wouldn't expect to feed them for a good while. I give them ( and most other things in the garden) a feed of weak tomato food every week in the summer, but then I'm pretty slapdash about everything, still get good crops tho'!

Just read that properly. Go back and buy some more strawbs! Put about 6 plants in a grobag, you can never have enough!
