Ah, but I think it will be all the better - your dressmaker has now seen you and knows your body shape. You will be able to choose all the right material, colours and finishes. You will be able to ask her to alter things as you go along if you want. She will take pride in what she does as she can see how important it is to you. These are all things you wont get from a generic dress factory.

See - it is a leap into the unkown, but a blooming good one.

Eeee, so excited for you wanchai! So are you including any parts of dress 1, or is it dress 2 (with wanchai-style alterations) all the way?

    Can't wait to see it!

I think it's Dress 2 all the way, but might try to get some embellished/beaded lace for it! Woo!

Really good thanks! She was very nice and I saw some pics of her work. Very impressed!

She loved Dress 1 but said that I should work with my figure (hourglass) and that a nipped-in waist would be so much more flattering. Which I suppose is true. Dress 1 is stunning but perhaps I would feel self-conscious in it. :o:o

She LOVED the dress in the blog (Dress 2)!!! And she said that it would be fairly straightforward to make. She talked me through lots of stuff: making a cotton toile for the top half to make sure that it was exactly the right shape, getting the buttons covered in whatever fabric I wanted, what types of fabric could be used for the skirt/sash etc. She said that she would be able to start in January and have it ready by May, so that's good.

I came home feeling very optimistic, then had a moment of dread in the middle of the night, thinking - what if I have a dress made and it turns out really badly and I'm stuck with it????? Am I being daft?????? :o:o

oh you're not alone. I'm also getting a dress made but although it has the influence of a Maggie S dress that I tried on we are tweaking it so no idea how it will look until it's finished. I'm watching a few ebay dresses just in case :D I do still have the odd panicky moment thinking maybe I should've just bought one from a shop but I trust my DM.

Thanks for that, I really appreciate it.

I went to the shop again yesterday to try on the dress that I love the most (it's v. like Dress 2) and fell in love with it all over again. I am really torn now - do I pay £1,300 for it in the shop but know that it'll be perfect, OR risk the DM getting it wrong to save a few hundred quid???? I'm not even sure that I'll get the fabric right if I go the DM route.

    Help....
