So they are reading hundreds of meters every day and you want them to be read by appointment, or just yours at a convenient time to you.

What if everyone demanded that, you can only shop in your local supermarket at a time convenient to them, of course you are being unreasonable.

House doesn't need to be tidy, and they have ID. You can even call your supplier and get a "Home Visit Password" set up on your account which the meter reader will give to prove his identity.

If everyone demanded an appointment convenient to them then then whole system would fall apart. The system doesn't revolve around you I'm afraid.

I provide the meter reading as I log in on the day before the bill is due. So the meter readings are updated accurately every three months.

If I entered the meter reading when they ask for it, the bill is continually being produced 14 days before it is due.

I don't get estimated bills as I always give a reading.

But if the supplier doesn't check the meter periodically they won't know if you are reading it correctly.

Tbh you are coming across as being deliberately obstructive. It's not about what you want but about your obligations as a customer.

well fortunately, I don't care whether you think I am being unreasonable or not. I just wanted to know if I had a legal obligation to let them in and now I know.

I don't need accusations of being dishonest/having cannabis farms/something to hide but then I should expect nothing less from some of the contributors to this forum from my experience and experiences of others that I have read of. It is not necessary at all and does not come under Martins guidelines for how he wants this forum to be run.

read my previous post "I don't see why they could not arrange a prior appointment when it is convenient to me? I am not being unreasonable, I just prefer not to let strange men claiming to be meter readers into my house with my three young children when I am alone."

and with three kids, the house is rarely completely tidy....

    You ARE being unreasanable.
You and your kids pass "strange men" in the street everyday
would you feel the same if it were a strange woman?

If the meter reader was going to do anything he/she would just push past you at the door, not wait till you had invited them in.

Why do people allways asume strangers are child molesters, rapists, theifs or murderers? What other reason could you possibly be worried about

Don't bother posting topics if you can't take people having different opinions to your own.

Anyway, just you keep blocking their entry. Enjoy it when they come around with the warrants, won't you! ;)

Why would anyone have a problem with a meter reader? It only takes minutes and you don't leave them on their own. My house is often untidy when they come but so what! As has been said you could be entering anything so they do need to check. It does seem to be making a mountain out of a molehill.

its not a different opinion, its slanderous and offensive and unnecessary. why can't the question be answered that is asked without personal insults and accusations being thrown at the poster?
