Spar dont take Scottish Notes!!!!!!

Just had a very surreal experience in my local Spar (in Warrington ) Came to pay for my paper and I gave them a Scottish £5 note. (I have been working up in in Scotland so have a few) Thier response:

"Spar doesnt take Scottish notes - they are too easy to copy"

Im guessing that shopkeepers maintain the right to refuse currency in any form but I am furious that a large chain like Spar is seemingly so ignorant

To add insult to injury the lady behind the counter informed me that Scottish currency is not legal in England:rotfl:is there something I should know:eek:

I'm sure this isn't SPAR policy

The easy to copy bit is a lie - what they mean is that they aren't used to what the notes should look like - so that it would be easy to fool them

Because it is just as hard to forge a scotish note as an english one

my uncle went to prison for making big money - he made it an inch too big
  • Lady is Spar is right, they are not legal tender :)

So send them up my way!
  • To save me trying to explain it...

aarrrgghhh thanks for that advice Edi - I of course believe you as you hold the enviable position of BG - I have therefore packaged them all up and sent them to you:D

How stoopid is that though eh? I had to go and scrabble around in my car for 70p to buy my paper :rotfl:
  • I'll swap them for some shortbread :)

They are - suspect a bit of fear (not seen a Scottish note before) and a lot of ignorance. It may not be Spars general policy but they need to get some training in place if this is your average company representative:rolleyes:

add some edinburgh rock in there and we have a deal:D
  • Nelski is right  in that although they are not "legal tender" they should be accepted but you'll find in small shops the assistants look at them as if they are "foreign" notes... and before you say it, of course they are :D
