  • right here goes, and this probably won't be happy reading to some, but i don't give a rats !!! cause i'm entitled to an opinion.

I never park in disabled nor mother and child parking bays, or rather i never did until i became a granparent and i now see the benefit of them, i struggle to get the pram up at the side of the car, whilst watching the baby, and that bit of extra room is a godsend.

    But

There are some really nasty people out there who think that the world owes them a living, and half of them, or in my opinion more than half of then do not deserve, blue badges, reserved parking spaces, or even worse new cars every 2 or is it 3 years, for swinging a stick. And yes there, are lots that do swing the stick to get what they want.

there i've said it...............as it really pee's me off.

Yes there are some disabled people in this country, but more and more each day people see being disabled as being extra benefits, and this soft country we are pamper and agree with these people.

the problem lies with the goverment who have allowed so many people to become disabled, i work with them, and once 1 gets on disability benefit because of something they wrote on a form, all the others follow suit.

Now i go out to work each and every day, and i bring home less than some of these disabled people with new cars (i've not got a new car) get each week.

Too many people swing the stick, sorry leg about being disabled, and the sooner the goverment get a grip of this the better.

as i dont have a disabled badge i cannot park in a disabled space - maybe i should play the disabled card and apply for one like it seems so easy to get nowadays

You don't need one to park in a disabled space in a supermarket car park. they mean nothing on private ground.

Actually i asked him and he said i was not entitled to park in a disabled space without a badge and if i had done he would have reported me

He was a lying or ignorant piece of ordure then.

Not read all the posts but it was my understanding (and the explaination given my a local supermarket to a woman complaining about a simular thing in store ages ago) that the parent and child spaces were made as they are bigger so you can get a child/ren in and out easily without worrying about the car doors next to you.

Personally I would be happy if they placed the parent and child spaces toward the rear of a carpark (obviously well lit etc) and NEAR a trolley parking bay. My issue with my local supermarkets P&C spaces are they are at the front near the store (not necessary) and no where near a trolley park so i either have to somehow manage 3 under 4 year olds to a car without a trolley and a load of shopping or i put shopping and children in the car then adandon them in the car whilst i return the trolley.

That way everyones happy - disabled drivers park near the front where they should do (after all the majority will have a blue badge as they have mobily issues) and parents still get the luxury of a larger space and a trolly bay close by in a quieter area of the car park with less traffic and therefore less risk... if its raining so what, kids dont melt (or at least mine dont) and it means i can safely get them into the car and put the trolley back :)

No they can't - I once got a ticket for parking in a mother and baby space.

I would also get one for parking in a disabled space too.....considering I am not disabled.

Was it a real ticket from the council or a private one in which case were you gullible enough to pay it?

And most didn't drive! My mum took me and my brother, in buggies, on the bus or Shanks' pony!

And an put of town retail park would have been a novelty.

  • I'd have been annoyed myself if there was disabled spaces available and the lady in question chose to park in a parent and child bay.

If there hadn't have been any spaces though, then yes, her using them would have been no issue.

I do use Parent and child spaces often, and when my DS arrives in January, then I will be using them even more if they are available. I do find them more than useful for taking car seats out, and even leaning over to undo my DD's seatbelt, when spaces nowadays are so small.

What I will find more annoying now, is the special parking spaces for "Low Emissions vehicles" that our asda have now.

These spaces are in front of the door in our store, closer than both disabled and P&C spaces and I see no need for them whatsoever.

They really do annoy me.

    Woohoo. I have a Prius. :)
My Asda doesn't have Low Emissions spaces :(

On a serious note, I agree with you that Low Emissions spaces are a silly idea.

Now if there was such a thing as Karma, you would experience first hand the inconvenience and hardship of being disabled. You would experience the loss of dignity that applying for and living on DLA can bring, especially as the prevelant mindset in UK at the moment seems to be that disabled people on benefits are all scroungers who are living it up on their small incomes. I hate it when I read (increasingly) about people who work full time moaning about how tough it is to see others claiming benefits. If being on benefits is such a ball you try it. Why are you so bothered about how others live their lives? Just live yours as you see fit and count your blessings.

Posts like yours always make me think of the malcolm x quote " Before long they will have us loving the oppressor and hating the oppressed". Seems to be happening right now, sadly.

I haven't read the full thread as the first page made me reply.

Parent and child spaces are useful when your children are very small due to the wider spaces.

In response to those who think we didn't have them 30 years ago, try thinking back 30 years to what sort of car you did have. Back then cars where either narrower or spaces where bigger. Back then my father was able to easily park his Vauxhall Viva in the drive but 30 years on had difficulty with his focus as it was so much wider.

Also 30 years ago there wasn't such an understanding of seatbelts. Many people travelled with young babies in their arms! It's the actual acrobatic/aerobic lesson of getting your child in and out of a car seat in a tight space that requires the need for a parent and child space.

There is an argument for moving these away from the store, but I would guess that supermarkets would be unwilling to do this as if a child then ran out in front of a car in the carpark the parents would unfortunately try to shift blame to the supermarket for having the spaces too far away.

With an ageing population, we are likely to see more and more blue spaces as need increases and in a caring society this is surely something to be welcomed. However, consideration needs to go both ways and unfortunately there are too many people who think the world owes them something even if it is only a right to park as near as possible to the supermarket front door.
