Although there isn't much I can contribute here, I'd just like to wish you all the best John.

Everyone makes mistakes in life, especially under pressure. Try not to blame yourself too much, it sounds as though you've been through a lot

All the best with the appeal, I hope you can come to a suitable arrangement.
  • I'm really not seeing the logic behind appealing the decision seeing as you fully admitted to gross misconduct?! I'm confused as to what you thought was going to happen when you confessed, you'd just get a stern telling off? However friendly someone is with an employer it's a business at the end of the day and if you break the contract they'll want to get rid.

Good luck with suing them for money you think you're owed, but unless you have the evidence and/or witnesses to back up your claims it may just look like you're a bitter ex employee taking the p***. However your ex employer may try and give you a small settlement just to avoid the whole thing going to court and wasting their time/money on it.

Also I'm not sure how you can lay blame at the door of your employer regarding personal issues and the reason you committed gross misconduct. If you'd have spoken up to them about your problems and how they were affecting work and they hadn't done anything to help or support you then of course they are at fault there, but that doesn't and won't condone gross misconduct especially what you've done, which wasn't a spare of the moment thing like swear at another employee because you felt stressed, for example. But if you never said anything to them (until now) it doesn't seem to hold much weight, their not mind readers.
