    I have 3.
Those with huge amounts probably got them before the credit crunch.
    How can this happen?

Negligent finances services sector that nearly went bust.
    Regulatory doing sweet FA.
You can read all about it on the BBC.

We have the, now Barclaycard, previously Egg Money. Its my card with OH as the guest, credit limit is £2,100 I think off the top of my head. Paid off each month, we have it for the cashback

BHS card which I never use, I'm surprised they havn't cancelled it, no idea what the credit limit is. I got it due to 10% the first purchase at BHS, had the 10% then never used it again.

Asda card which again we don't use. We had it for the 2p off a litre of petrol but they don't offer that anymore so again, we never use the card.

How long does it take before a card becomes dormant. I have just looked at my husband's Equifax account and there are 10 credit cards listed on there. None of them apart from the current one have been used for years. They were 0% cards that paid off our debt. How can I tell if they are open or not because we need to cancel them if they are open.

    We don't owe anything.

Think it's 6 years they stay on the credit report, best way to check is too call and ask each company. Sometimes it's not really clear on the reports. It may, for example, state settled but this can still mean it's open, I'd just call and ask then request a full closure.

Got my first ever CC in Oct 2010 which was a Capital One with the bonus 1% cashback for a year. Used it for everything, I actually had 2 cashback payouts but I believe the cashback has expired now, card's still active, paid off in full (DD) every month never missed any payments, limit was really small but I was constantly overpaying without any issues for larger purchases.

Although it's only been a year since my first CC I have also obtained a Halifax Clarity Card used for overseas and £5 bonus/month. Capital One World Card which is now my new cashback card and a tesco club credit card.

I actually applied for the latter two at exactly the same time and was very surprisingly dual accepted (: I'm tempted to push my luck with the Nectar credit card but i'll give it abit yet. The one CC I was turned down for was an Amex Plat so I was ecstatic to get the World card.

I always pay everything off in full with DD.

If the status on the credit agreement is "Settled" then it's closed.
If it says something else (Up To date?) then it's not closed.
  • One for the time being.

Once I've had the card for 12-18 months it should enable me to get a better deal with someone else hopefully, and if not? I still have my Vanquis.

I love paying Vanquis interest, honest, and you can buy a lot of sweets with £250 limit ;)
I'm not poor i'm just skint
  • I have about 6 cards with total credit limits of approx. £50k.
