I filled my kettle with brown vinegar last night, heated it up and then left it to de-scale. This morning I have rinsed it out a lot, boiled it with fresh water 3 times and also left it to air empty with the lid open. It still smells of vinegar! I haven't tried using it for drinks as I don't fancy vinegar flavoured tea!
How long will the smell hang around and can I do anything else to shift it?
I also soaked some kitchen roll in white vinegar and put it in the "furrows" of my limescaley draining board and left it overnight. The scale hasn't moved and I can't scrub it off either. Any thoughts?

Never used brown vinegar myself (always use the "white" vinegar) and some times limescale if it is really bad needs more than one treatment. I would take an old facetowel or similar and treat a section of the draining board at a time.
Are you sure it's limescale build up? (Just checking)

This is no problem, honest.
Fill your kettle with water, add a heaped teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda (baking powder if it's all you have) and bring it to the boil.
Pour out when done, a couple of cold rinses and you should be fineHi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. Yes, it is limescale and I am only "doing" part of the board, it's still on there now - I put some more white vinegar on the kitchen roll when I got up. I'll leave it as long as I can today before removing it all.0

OK I've done that and the smell is almost gone now, thanks! I will leave it to "air" again before I use it for drinks.0 -

Next time I'd use diet coke0 -
oh dear - you know to use white vinegar next time
Another 'old wives' tale for getting rid of limesacle in kettles is to put a potato in there with some soda crystals and water and boil away!0
