You can't pay any telcom weekly AFAIK-the admin charge for processing 52 payments a year would be more than the contract value!
Primus is a resold BT service, not LLU, so your broadband should not be affected.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

does primus affect broadband in any way i am with orange broadband which also has second line on the router.

have you had a good experience with primus and is it definitely £6.49 a month? How is it paid can i pay weekly or does it have to be monthly?
Can you explain exactly what you mean by your statement about Orange broadband "which also has a second line on the router" - do you mean you have a VoIP phone service on your broadband? If so this only dependent on your broadband working, not on who provides your landline.

The Primus Line Saver deal is £6.79/month (not 6.49) as mentioned above in my post #10. It is paid for by monthly Direct Debit so you need a bank account that allows direct debits. I've recently signed up for the Home Phone Saver at £7.99/month, activated in December - no issues yet! Note, both deals are 12 months minimum.
As already mentioned, Primus is a resold BT Wholesale product so there shouldn't be an issue for the broadband if you are on a BT line at the moment. It may be wise to contact your broadband customer service to tell them you will be changing Landline provider from BT Retail to Primus, if that is what you decide, to tell them to make sure your broadband service does not get disconnected. I'd ask them for email confirmation of that. Also when you get a confirmation email from Primus (not the homephonechoices email), I would ring their customer service and tell them there is a broadband service on the line and to ensure Openreach (BT) do not disconnect it. I'd ask for email confirmation.

Al Ross - the price does not automatically change at the end of the 12 months - you stay on the same deal.
  • I signed up to Primus 'Saver' Broadband, phone line and line rental all for just over £15 in total. I have been with them for 3 months and have regretted it ever since. The day the broadband swapped over I still didn't have my router. So, as I was with SKY before, I had to wait for the new router as my SKY one was locked to them only.

When it finally turned up I noticed a significant difference in Broadband speeds. With SKY, I would get about 4-8meg which was fine but the new Primus Saver Router was only giving me 1 or 2meg. I immediately sent an email to Primus' inbox to which I got no reply. I sent another about 2weeks later... No reply. I sent one yesterday... No reply. So today I had enough free time to spend 2 1/2 hours waiting for an operator who told me there were high volumes of emails received recently.

They also logged a fault on my account after trying to fob me off with "maybe you need to change the ADSL Filter" Done, "We will have to get you to do speed checks over the next couple of months" Done that's why I am calling, "well I will have to log a fault on your line and someone will ring you later once we have done some checks.

It's now 7.10pm and I am still awaiting the call... I will be calling back tomorrow and canceling and arguing the cancellation charge...

NEVER GO NEAR PRIMUS, SOMETHING IS WRONG THERE

Primus = a reseller of a telephone line.

If u go with them, and state you dont want 'Caller-ID' or any other fancy rubbish, just state you want to pay £6.49 for line rental, then u will get the service for that price.....
when u get a fault, u'd report it to Primus, who would tell u if its your problem, u pay the £69 fee (everyone says that), and then they contact BT Wholesale who check out the fault...
Primus dont have engineers, still all BT from that side of things... Primus just provide the rubbish customer services and the billing part....
(I'm with them, does appear to be run by plums, but still cheaper to go with these plums! :) )

We went with Primus over a year ago, the only problem we had was we noticed that the bills were higher than we thought they should be, and the invoices do not have any breakdown of the monthly charge. We did get through to them, when the helpdesk was still overseas to find out we had been paying for several extras, call waiting etc etc, when all we wanted was caller id. It was put right straight away, so if you are with them check your first couple of bills. No problems with internet (we are with names co, not the cheapest, but customer service is brilliant).
  • Primus have put some of there prices up .

Well, as I said in another post somewhere, a friend of mine has been with them a couple of years and had no problems. I also have a service with them and rang their customer service a couple of days ago with a very trivial query regarding billing. They answered quickly, were polite and fully explained what I needed to know, no problem what so ever - no doubt helped by the fact that their call centre is now in the UK.
Yes they've put their chargeable call prices up due to increased costs from BT Wholesale, but the other major providers have increased their charges more, and Primus line rental is much cheaper.

You can only sign up for the Line Rental Saver £6.79/month here
    http://www.homephonechoices.co.uk/hpc_summary.asp?pid=443&kt=mse~cu~gtl
The new call charges are summarised on the Call Charges tab.
0845/0870 charges are 6p/min at all times.
Don't forget the call setup fee 12.9p applies to all chargeable calls.

The Home Phone Saver package price is £7.99 if you sign up via http://www.homephonechoices.co.uk/hpc_summary.asp?pid=230&kt=mse~cu~gtl
This package has inclusive evening and weekend UK landline calls.

PS. If you have a fault, you do not pay a £69 fee up front as suggested by StuieUK34, but you need to check that the fault is not caused by you own equipment or internal wiring otherwise you will end up paying a fee if BT Wholesale find the fault is on your premises, likely to be £85 (or more). This applies to ALL Line Rental providers not just Primus. For guidance on how to check your equipment see Page 6 of the latest phone book (even if you are not a BT customer) or page 5 or 4 on previous versions. If you have a fault you do report it your Line Rental Provider eg. Primus (not BT).

You seem to be a passionate advocate for Primus, with a detailed knowledge of their product offering. Are you sure you don't work for them?

In any case my own experience, and that of many other posters on MSE is that they are a shambles.

They might be cheap - but sometimes in life you get what you pay for.

Here are just some of the horror stories from Primus in the past couple of months from a quick search on MSE:

NO I don't work for them HOW DARE YOU MAKE SUCH AN ACCUSATION.
If you bothered to read the post I made before yours, you'd note I'm a customer.

Clearly you had a bad experience with Primus, but if you bother to look around these boards and others you will find equally bad horror stories about most major Telcos as well as some smaller ones, including Plusnet.

As a Primus customer I make it my business to be aware of what their current charges are for the various services, and what other services I can use, unlike some who don't seem to check whether a particular services suits their needs before signing up. If you are someone who wants a lot of Line Features for example, then Primus is unlikely to be the best deal at £2.50 for each. Depending on your needs, a provider that gives discounts for Bundles of Features may suit better - eg. Plusnet (but you need to take their BB to get their Phone service).
You don't need to post links to threads that I've seen several times over and make what seems like exaggerated comments. You will find horror stories about any provider that someone will recommend if you take the trouble to look.
IMHO BT Retail are a shambles, I can speak from experience. They tried to given me a new account and charge me for a new connection in the case of a family bereavement. But you will find they have many satisfied customers, unlike this one https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3747725

Anyone reading your posts about primus (giving such passionate detailed defence of them) could be excused from thinking you had more than just a customer's interest!!

(You say those of us who have posted about primus problems are (to you) "exaggerated comments" - we could say to you "how dare you"!!)

And you don't even need tp follow links, there are comments in this thread to help the OP decide.

My comment was not aimed at you :(
I've given NO passionate defense of Primus, just my experience and facts, and I'll soon be posting any bad experiences if I have any :exclamati
Clearly you don't believe good experience should be posted as well as bad.
