Hiya
Was wondering whats best to feed my cat Jinks. He has mainly been fed on dry Iams (chicken) with the odd sachet of wet food (whiskers or iams as a treat). he does drink plenty of water so happy with feeding him mainly dry.
Issue at the moment is have ran out of Iams and bought costco own brand cat food for him. I had a sample of it previously and he ate it fine, but now he is refusing to eat it and crying for food.
I dont want to feed him pure junk so suggestions on what the "best" food is to get him onto. I have had a look at Pets at home, mainly to see the different nutrients but am a bit stuck as to which is better. Am liking the sound of Applepaws at the moment, but dont know if thats good or if there is a better one. mainly looking at the meat content and not the price. Price is obviously a consideration, but not to the extent that he is fed go cat etc.
Thanks

I feed my persian Royal Canine Sensible 33 as she has a delicate stomach.٩(•̮̮̃•̃)۶ ٩(-̮̮̃-̃)۶ ٩(●̮̮̃•̃)۶ ٩(͡๏̯͡๏)۶ ٩(-̮̮̃•̃)۶ :EasterBun0

I think royal canin is the best dry food too. I also buy almo wet food - but It can be hard to find in the UK.
Save me from spending...

If you are referring to dry food, then Applaws is a good one to feed, along with Orijen. They both have high meat contents. Applaws wet food, however, is a complimentary rather than complete food so should not be fed as a single source.
Despite my best efforts, it is a battle to get any of my five cats eating Applaws / Orijen, I feed mine Royal Canin as they eat this without grumbling and never seem to get bored. They have either Fit 32, Exigent, or Sensible. The only issues with RC is that it contains grains (Orijen / Applaws don't) and the manufacturers are not clear on % meat content.0 -

You can get Almo from Zooplus very easily, and also at cat shows should you ever go along to any :rotfl: you can also usually get Bozita (with English writing on!!) from stands at cat shows too. Reasonable prices as well0 -
Applaws dry & feline fayre wet is a good combination.
This is what i try to feed our monster on but she also has whiskas wet and felix wet too as she gets bored with the same brand all the time and then won`t eat.
Applaws is also a really good food with regards to animal testing/cruelty issues whereas iams is regarded to be bad. I did try to feed mine an exclusively cruelty free diet but she wasn't having any of it, she won`t eat raw either so the best that i can do is half and half.
She is around 11 years old now and has never had a days illness in her life so eating this way must suit her.
SDPlanning on starting the GC again soon0 -
thanks for the replies, i really appreciate them. so its sounding like applepaws and orijen are the way to go. DH has mixed a sachet of wet in with some of the dry food to get him to eat as this is now day 2 of me being cruel with food. hopefully he will eat if not emergency dash to supermarket tomorrow to pick up a bag of iams, and then order online to get some better quality food but small bags to start with to ensure he likes them.0

zooplus has a good selection of grainfree foods (wet and dry).
if you like the idea of orijen/applaws, acana is part of the orijen family and is sometimes cheaper. (still grainfree).
another alternative also grainfree) is taste of the wild.
fish4dogs also do a grainfree cat food, but it can be difficult to find it in a 7kg bag. (not available on zooplus).
finally, another high meat low fillers food is meowing heads purrnickey. it has a bit of oat in it, but you can buy it at jolleyes if you have one near you. (also not on zooplus).
for grainfree wet you can try grau foods (some varieties grainfree), bozita, and ziwipeak. other high meat contents are some varieties of hi-life, smilia, applauws(complementary), feline fayre (some complimentary), toplife, aniomonda carny, and almo nature. most are available either on zooplus or at asda.
i feed my two on a rotating basis of dryfood : acana/orijen/taste of the wild/fish4/meowing heads with wet food : grau, bozita, hi-life.
they also get some offal and raw food sometimes too : ) .

if you are changing a cats diet its best to introduce food slowly....so mix 25% of new food in with the old and when he is used to that increase the percentage.
i have also heard from a vet that it takes 3 days of being strict for a cat to change its food if you simply switch it over and he doesn't like the new stuff. not sure if thats true as i have always only introduced food slowly.
i Hills Science Diet - its expensive and only available from the vet...not very MSE...0 -
i do usually mix the dry with new dry when introducing food, just hadnt realised id totally run out of iams as DH has been doing the feeding the past few months for me and my stockpile had ran out
thankfully jinks has eaten the dry mixed with wet so going to keep doing that for the next few days gradually reducing the amount of wet in the bowl till its all dry and will be buying some different food to try as it has shown me that its not good to have a cat only eat one type of dry, i need to mix it up so that this doesnt happen again in future.0
