Last night our electricity was off for a total of three hours due to what I assume was a fault ,I seem to remember something happening to us some years ago and we were able to make a claim for this and we recieved some compensation, does anyone know if this still applies.

i think the power has to be off for a much longer period before compo kicks in.

more than 24 hours then you may be entitled to a bit of compensation.
    :footie:
:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p
  • LOL I wish it did apply after just 3 hours. We'd be absolutely loaded! Up until a few years ago we used to have at least one powercut each week, and often at least one powercut each day for weeks and months on end. Now we get approx one per month, or one every few months that lasts more than half an hour.
  • There is a table here >>> http://www.ofgem.gov.uk/Pages/MoreInformation.aspx?docid=41&refer=Networks/ElecDist/QualofServ/GuarStandds

Gives you times and compensation prices...
Looking at it you need a few more interuptions yet ;)

For a 3hr interruption, only if it happened more than 4 times in a one year period.
Otherwise, nothing until 18hrs of interruption. Sorry.

We came back today after 73 hours. All our electric devices have been taking a big hit since then.

From the link above is it correct that each house would be due £50 in compensation as we are located in the Scottish Highlands?
  • Hi,

everybody nowadays wants compensation, getting too Americanised.

The weather in the north was atrocious last week, lots of damage done.

Then the engineers have to find the fault, not easy in bad weather, walking fields, or using helicopters.

Then they have to get the linesmen to the job, blocked roads etc.

Don't think many of you claiments would've been willing to go to the top of a pole and work in the conditions last week.

Prepare yourselves for more this week, forecast is for more high winds.

'Highlands and Islands' are exempted from compensation under Guaranteed Standards

who would you expect to pay you this £50 compensation?

    surely not your supplier?
